Is classic more toxic?

I’ve had more toxic experiences in cata classic right now than retail including vanilla classic ( I got camped for 3 days outside red ridge but thats here nor there.) I joined a Blackrock depths-detention group 5 times yesterday and each time, it was like 2 moonkins or 1 hunter and mage just ZOOOOMING through all the dungeons and they spam me to hurry up and not drink and shut up then they leave after one boss. I’m assuming they’re doing a boss skip or something for Blackrock? Or am I misunderstanding here. Blackrock and Sunken temple are my favorite dungeons so I personally don’t mind spending time in there and killing every single boss or doing the arena… Is this a cata thing?

well from playing classic to cata i’d assume it’s because the combat is much more fast pace starting in wrath than it was in vanilla/tbc, so time spent drinking is a sin. those ‘smell the rose expereince’ in dungeons ended in tbc.

folks did say this is where “retail” starts so i’d assume it’s not that much more different than if you did that here lol.

I think ur right. I also have found that in vanilla I wanted to heal a deadmines as druid and had to wait almost 4 hours to find a party that would take me instead of a priest. I have found that classic and retail is about the same amount of toxic.

Yes. Classic has a lot more… shall we say people who don’t like “woke” culture.

:eyes: I didn’t say it… but yes, I agree.

I don’t think this behavior is exclusive to Cata Classic. The mentality in PUG play gets worse all the time. I really wish they would just extend follower dungeons to leveling dungeons and TW.

Oh no It’s definitely everywhere but I thought classic would be more “smell the roses type” game atleast but I think thats just a fabrication for nostalgia. In reality they are zooming past deadmines, sunken temple, BRD, zul’farrak, everything. They want a meta priest healer instead of druid or shaman and 2-3 mages. They’ll wait 3 hours for that comp too. (We could have finished 3 dungeons with a ragteam of classes by then), Just funny to see. I’ve found nicer people on rp realms on retail tbh. Imagine if we just went with shaman healer, druid dps and melee hunter, we could have finished the 2 dungeons by now. :man_shrugging:

No and yes. In the situation that you’re describing it just sounds like those people have already “figured out” the game and they’re just rushing through it as fast as they can. WoW only had the “stop and smell the roses” effect early on because for a lot of people it was a brand new game, and possibly their first MMO. This just sounds like people rushing to the end game, which is really what WoW has become.

classic andys are some of the worst people you’ll ever encounter in an online video game.

Retail has some of the friendliest and most helpful in my experience.

There’s exceptions to the rule, but there is def a rule.

I love both games, but the communities are VERY different.

I kind of have to agree also… personally classic feels waaay too easy for everyone to be tryharding this hard. Like everything dies almost instantly with 5 people hitting it, and I’m dpsing as a healer too.

This is a one boss dungeon run. BRD is split into two different runs, detention and emperor. If you get into a random dungeon detention run, you get your bonus xp and bag with gear after killing that first boss, so people leave because dungeon is over.

I haven’t played classic in a while but it did occur to me recently how much less toxicity there is in M+ this season than usual. I personally think it has always been rare unless you label any critical comment of any kind like “mage has low dps” as ‘toxicity’. While I do think it’s a little bit toxic, I really don’t think that’s what we all mean when we talk about toxicity in M+. I think what we mean is harsher or more persistent criticism and not a single mild jab.

Ooooh I see so people just turn right kill boss and leave? Edit: I think without the “shut up” and toxic messages prob would’ve been easier to understand from the random groups… huh… thanks!

Yup! You can tell which one you’re in by checking the mole machine, I believe. If you can go to Grim Guzzler you’re in an emperor run.

Thank you! I understand alot better now

We’re talking Classic. There are no random dungeons in Classic. No loot bag appears in your bag. In lots of these dungeons, people are farming one boss for loot. Then they leave and reset until they get locked out.

Classic is for people who don’t like the improvements made to the game over the years.

Most of those improvements were making the game more accessible, so people who don’t like them are people who hate the fact that more people can play this game.

So yes, Classic is more toxic because it’s primary selling point is it’s reverting back to a time when the game design was more hostile.

Classic Cata, which is what OP is talking about, does have random dungeons.

Era is worse by a mile, as was SoD. Cata is a bit rougher than retail but it is nowhere near as bad as Era or most anything capped at level 60. Those are some short fuse elitist peoples clutching those one button rotations and shoehorned specs.
