That’s the way towards the game dying. There’s always attrition at the top, if you lose the leveling community then many of the replacements coming up aren’t going to be team players. Instead they’ll be individual players who find they have no choice to team up for the raid gear. *
It all leads toward less players filling in for the attrition at the top and many of those players will focus on the gear rather than having fun being a part of a team. Overall, it’s bad for the social aspects of the game when it becomes top-heavy.
edit:
* By the way, this is why it’s good to have alternate ways of gearing up. Give the individual players a way of getting gear when they don’t want to group and then the people who group will be the ones who do it because they want to group.
Make it more difficult/time consuming to do solo but give solo players a path to gear. Everyone will be happier for it.
The same thing can be said about players who primarily play retail. If I was to pose the question of “is retail dying” in GD I’d get the same types of responses. The tribalism among this game’s two communities is pathetic.
Not sure if your server is dying, probably is to a degree. But also people are just farming BGs or logging in once a week to do raids these days. So that could also be part of it.
That’s the end result of every video game. I’m not bored yet but I guess that in less than a year I’ll be done with classic. Either BC will be released or I’ll find some else fun to do.
Ok so no. It’s not fading. My server has so many guilds raiding daily that you can view a Google calendar to see when to be in the city for the buff.
My LFG channel is FULL of people looking. I have NO problems finding groups for dungeons while leveling.
People treat wow classic as a spreadsheet (anyone who has ‘Bis’ gear is like this). Nothing is organic or spontaneous. There’s loads of players, but all of them are dungeon boosting to 60. Everyone runs the same raids at 60 for bis items.
The game is not a game, it’s a DPS spreadsheet. To answer your question no it’s not dead, but it’s definitely lifeless.
Far from dead, there is a lot of chat in trade and differen’t zones, this game is still very lively, i don’t know what server your from but maybe check if it’s now low pop, since sometimes servers die.
Most players end up playing only 5% of the game. They only raid, or only pvp, or only battleground, or whatever. So if the few things they like to do are inactive, they say the whole game is dead.
