When Grom Hellscream first fought Cenarius, the weapons he and his warriors had seemingly had no affect on Cenarius. He had to drink the demon blood before he had any affect on the Demi-god. Presumably the fel infusing his body and weapons and thus giving him the ability to harm Cenarius. We see in Legion that very powerful Emerald Nightmare magics can also affect him. But if we go by WC3 only Chaos damage (Fel?) can harm him, and if you dont have it or Nightmare magic you’re not going to even scratch Cenarius. Is this the case lorewise?
Were I to guess, it wasn’t so much he’s invulnerable as he healed from any injuries made very quickly. He’s basically a supercharged druid, and druids use HoTs. In theory he can be overwhelmed by any attack if there’s enough of it, but it takes a ton. The Fel just allowed them to inflict worse wounds that cut through his healing.
Yeah, this is a good surmising of the situation. Also keep in mind, the orcs’ encounter with Cenarius was one of their earliest encounters with the Kaldorei, and Druidism, as a whole. Unlike the fight with Cenarius in Legion - in which we had the help of Malfurion, were familiar with the powers he wielded and how to combat them, AND were grossly empowered by powerful artifacts - the Horde was thrust in blind and unprepared to fight a god of the forest.
I dont think hes invulnerable. More like the Orcs were not prepared to fight a demigod and their attacks were not strong enough. Drinking fel blood doesn’t give them any fel attacks or anything it just increases their strength and rage.
When they got extra juiced they grew much stronger allowing Grom to easily slay him.
Why would drinking felblood affect the weapons?
It just made Grom more powerful than Cenarius, for a Limited Time Only.
Yeah I was going to say exactly this. All the incredibly powerful beings in WC3 aren’t immune to other forms of damage, it’s just the people wielding them do scratch damage to them whereas chaos is roided up super attacks.
I dont know about the easily part…if we go by WC3, you still lose half your orc army in that fight even after shooting up the fel juice.
Well at the end of the day it is still Cenarius and the forces he commands, it’s not surprising they didn’t just roll over them.
