It’s alive and well, currently retail and cata classic have highest player base. I been leveling characters between levels 50 and 80 with 4min-9min que times as dps in dungeon finder.

as far as leveling dungeons go, I had some quick queues today as a solo dps in TBC dungeons
At lower levels the bottle neck is players willing to heal, in my experience for RFD
Wouldn’t your logic dictate that they would have plenty of time to level if every expansion they are making MORE characters? Why does it all of a sudden stop at Cata?
Oh come on, really? I don’t see how anyone could misunderstand my post. It was meant to illustrate a general trend. Each expansion a player has more characters at cap. When the next expansion begins they have more characters to level up to the new cap usually before they start to level a new character. With more characters at cap to level up to the new cap it takes more time. Eventually they have so many characters at level cap that they barely have time to level them to the new cap and don’t have time to start a new character before the next expansion drops.
On average that point is reached around Cata. For some casuals with less time to play it might happen with Wrath. For casual with more time it might happen around MoP. But it usually happens at some point for most casuals as they get more and more characters to cap.

mentioned earlier about my fairly quick queues in TBC dungeons, the mage I was doing that on is now halfway through Wrath and my queues for dungeons today were never more than a couple of minutes

I’m surprised. I guess I was wrong. I should have done more wrath dungeons when I was leveling up my 70’s for cata.
This is probably server specific. If you checked Bloodsail Buccaneers in the middle of the day or even on a non-raiding night, you might think it is in fact dead.

I just started playing this yesterday (Horde) and I had about 5 min ques as a dps in dungeon finder, so I would say no.
The bg bracket 10-19 is dead though - I waited 45 minutes without a pop.

Cata is when i originally quit vanilla because of how bad it was…
Its a shame that all the classic players get to cata and say “this is retail and this is why i dont play retail”
no cata isn’t retail… cata sucks and they made vast improvements since then.
Because the prior expansions are boring and retail is foreign, having not experienced several in-between expansions. 
To get ilvl gear that’s higher ilvl than badge vendor in a manner that allows them to mostly afk.
Nah, I dont believe that at all.
I havn’t actually checked warcraftlogs but according to ironforge.pro, there is about the same number of players playing Cata classic compared to all the other versions of classic, so I would say his assesment is not far off, at the very least.
P.S. There is about 120k active players on Cata Classic.
Well… That trips me up. Cata? I wonder if MOP will be more popular.
