Is ot me, or is Brewmaster consistently one of the worst tanks? I came back to wow in 8.2 and Brewmaster felt like a god. Since then its been missing in action.
Is it always bad, and if so, why?

its not bad per say but need to think outside of the box playstyle
They are a Tier above Prot Paladin at least
Brewmaster used to shrug off tank busters really well and Blizzard never forgave them.
Hi I’m tanking on Brewmaster this season and I’ve been told I’ve been very easy to heal. Admittedly I’ve tanked to 8s so it might not be accurate to their real ability.
I put the low numbers down to complexity and low class appeal.
It was god mode in bfa.
It’s also very strong in raid and other content. It’s only truly struggling in m+. I’m currently leveling mine up as I’m curious to why they are struggling.
My guess, stagger mechanic isn’t delaying or removing enough damage fast enough.
brew has never really clicked with me. it feels like a very spinny dps. but more importantly for how I see a tank, their mob control is primarily to knock mobs away from them. generally the tank wants to pull them in (DK grip style). that comment might seem ironic since I am playing a guardian for now.
but i have always had the feeling that brew is heavily slept on.
equinox is one of the top, if not the top, brew tank. he is doing 0.1% stuff with the class.
i think the general opinion is that butotn bloat drove people away. but it seemed that if you figured out the bloat and how to manage stagger, you do some pretty uber stuff.
the bloat issue has been addressed in TWW and it looks like brew is much more prevalent than in previous seasons.
Stagger seems fine but it just requires a lot of attention to be good at brewmaster vs turning your brain off while playing a prot warrior or bear.
Brew has one of the best tank rotations imho, its action packed fun.
I liked brewmaster for how much damage you used to be able to do, it was the draw to playing one. Now it seems prot warrior and vdh can out dps them while being more tanky. Brew can still pump, especially with Weapons of Order, but vdh does it without 2 minute long cd’s.
What is the point of playing brew (besides actually loving the playstyle/fantasy/aesthetic) if you can do what they do but better and easier on another tank? I think that is what it boils down to mostly. Most people will take the path of least resistance.
I could be wrong, but my understanding is Brewmasters always take the most damage, which makes them look worse on paper/Sims which has become the only thing that matters.
That, combined with weak self-healing options, makes them even worse on paper - they take more damage than most, and have arguably the weakest self-healing options of all tanks.
Yet, the way they take damage is insanely consistent due to their unique stagger mechanic, so it makes them one of the easiest tanks to heal as others have said. Leveling a priest now, love BrM tanks.
Yeah, I was going to say this.
It’s basically reparations for BrM cheesing mechanics in the past.
They paid for their sins.
They call that The Shaman where im from.
it was really good during DF season 4, and alright the other ones, so obviously we had to nuke them, monk just isn’t allowed to be good - any spec
I thought brewmasters were at their strongest once they hit the bottom of the barrel. Dont they gets buffs from drinking that much?
I don’t see it yet!
On all keys were the lowest by far (7.6%) with Prot pal next at 12%.
Mid keys (7-9) were still the lowest but close to prot Paladin. We beat them at 10+ but are at 1/2 the population of the next tank.
(I am getting this off Raider io dunno if it’s accurate)
Slightly off topic but I wish brewmaster monks had an ability like Chen from HotS where he chugs from his keg and absorb shields anyone in radius of him. Would be a cool group utility/defensive, kind of like AMZ for DK.
The barrel, nice, I see what you did there
Yet DK can cheese alot of things currently in m+ and raid. I love never having to worry about being sucked in on the portal boss, or getting knocked back in dungeons. Plus if you are proative you are ignore a magic debuff, or soak up puddles to clear space for your group.
That would require blizzard remember that hots exists
there was a brewmaster monk in the wf kill of ansurek a few days ago.
True true.
