Arthas kinda transitioned seamlessly from life to Undeath when he became a DK.
He was Undead enough that he removed his own heart after his fight against Illidan.

Arthas never died prior to being the Lich King though.

He died the moment he picked up frostmourne.
He was undead for years before he put on the helm and became Lich King.

I like to consider Bolvar the same way i considered Arthas before he became the Lich King.
Dead but never actually experiencing the “dying” part but far enough over the line that he stops being considered alive.

How do you get stuck in between alive and a state that’s already between life and death?
