Is blizz's game design declining?

They released an expack centered around a piece of gear that you can’t upgrade or remove, that has no graphic, is powered by drops you never actually receive, and gives you spells you literally have no control over.

So… there’s that brilliant idea.

Can you blame them? This playerbase can get downright toxic. Have YOU ever been booed at in front of thousands of people? Of course for their own emotional, physical, and mental well-being they’re going to protect themselves. They’re also going to have priorities because that’s how you make money.

If you have been on the forums from the beginning you would know they are the same complaining cesspit they have always been.

Yoshi over at square seems to have a different approach. It seems to work, so I dunno.

Urgh, i just can’t believe that after that they’re adding new grinds and now after Azerites being timegated and essences being a pain they’re adding a third Legendary cloak and corrupted gear. At first, i thought i’d like Legendaries after they had the Shadowmourne lines, but now i detaste legandaries with a passion, they’re unenjoyable, ussually lfg slogs to chore through, and i hated the WoD legendary ring quest line. It’s not legendary, it’s just a artifact power grind slog without the tmog appearances or lore. I’d happily kill brann and Magni just to never have to visit the heart forge again.

I didn’t say people aren’t allowed to complain about the game or express how they feel. I said most of the whiniest threads you see on these forums are populated by the same cadre of a few dozen regulars who have zero interest in improving the game for anyone other than themselves.

they also get cheered when they show humility and own up to their mistakes or present interesting new ideas.

My guess: corporate shift, turnover, egos, and went for the quick $$$.

Shadowlands - I can’t see them varying much from Legion and BFA style WOW. The Art Team will be on point. Who knows what the rest will do.

Blizzard: Shows the Lich king
Audience: Massive cheering.

Blizzard: Shows Sylvanas
Audience: Less Cheers and more booing.

Bolvar picks up hammer to smash Sylvanas
Everyone cheering

Blizzard: “Throws away In case of emergency, break out of glass sign, and proceeds to make a expac about Garrosh 2, Purple genocidical boobzombie edition. Waifuboobing her way past every trained war hero in the entire WoTLK lore like a badly written mary sue fanfic on crack.”

People aren’t in middle school anymore. Dancing in Dal isn’t fun 10 years later.

You choose to only remember it being fun and pretend that wrath didn’t have these same complaints, and didn’t lose nearly half its sub count before it ended.

And even if that is still fun, you can still dance in boralus, do a weeky dungeon, raid once a week on normal and make friends.

But instead, players come to the forum and make posts and in delusion believe that a post with dozens or hundreds of likes or comments somehow shows what millions of players across the world actually want.

I mean, when the dude had a follow up question about older zones Ion gave him a non answer like he isnt in charge of development(probably isnt). you could tell he didnt like the 2nd question at all, while still pretending there were cheers in the boos(delusional).

…It’s been declining since Cataclysm was released.

Where were you? Haha.

The last time they completely removed all the side content incentives to play and log in was…WoD.

That was the game in its purest form of log in and make your own fun version.

Cata was more understandable at least, they completely gutted the leveling experience(and even then the bugs were less obnoxious, imo). Now it just looks like they need to move out of the state.

I think WoD ran into a different problem though, the content itself was fun, but there wasn’t enough of it. I have to say of all the questing experiences the WoD Frostfire ridge campaign IMO was well worth a solid playthrough and intro line… and then… it just kinda fell off.

Only half the content they ever planned was released and it was originally at a time when blizzard was playing around with the idea of yearly expansion releases. WoD was meant to be a one year expansion with 3 more updates on the way from adding in 2+ more raid tiers and Farthion to transition us from iron horde. Instead we got dropped in with the final raid tier being the first patch and then a drought for 2 years while they made legion.

Now, while legion turned out well, WoD definitely suffered from the drought and mass burnout from running 3-4 raid tiers of the same raid over and over.

First you did lfr/mythic, then you did normal, after normal you did heroic, and after heroic if you were lucky you did mythic, and while the lfg was very active with hopping all the raid and massive rp. Players rarely saw eachother since garrisons were all zoned. Lots of players just burnt out from raiding over and over with a 10 month drought to the point that Selfie cameras, twitter and blood elf model updates were literally sold as a main ‘content’ patch update that arguably was a toy at best.

Except when I saw several threads/posters specifically asking for them, before they knew they were going in the game.

Yeah, the older Blizzard reminds me of the “Game of Thrones” on HBO, up to the point where they ran out of George R.R. Martin material. The newer Blizzard reminds me of the people from “Game of Thrones”, even some of the actors like Kit Harrington, defending what they did in the last few episodes of “Game of Thrones.”:

There should be a point where they just admit they were/are wrong. “Oh yeah, that was bad.”

I doubt you see many of them though. We will find out in the next 6 months how many of them there are, I’d definitly bet the under.

Weren’t those threads asking for Wotlk Mecha gnomes though, not BFA scrapper gnomes? The woTLK gnomes were literally, literal literally, named mechagnomes. the ones we saw in BFA didn’t really have a name, maybe scrapper gnomes / Junkergnomes depending on who you asked.

This. The higher ups pick a day and the devs have to deliver and like always lately they are still working to fix everything weeks afterwards as evident by the amount of patches after big patch day.

The big bugs get fixed (hopefully) and smaller bugs get ignored till a later date if ever.

I don’t think so? They were asking for the Mechagnomes we were interacting in BFA, once people were coming out with the datamined dance moves and stuff (like they did with Vulpera), so they thought they might be an allied race.
