It really isn’t a necessity. It’s easy to think of it as a necessity due to the convenience it offers but really if you just don’t touch your smartphone for a month you realize how it doesn’t really help you as much as you think.
I just talk and text, I can do that with an old flip phone. I don’t really need Google Maps, Facebook or the other social media apps, or an internet browser to function.
That said, I fully expect in the next 5 years we’re going to see some function put into Google Maps that alerts police if you’re speeding on the interstate. My maps gets obnoxious with me if I’m going one mile an hour over and turns red. Though I don’t know how many people navigate constantly with google maps or not going to places, it certainly would be wise for catching people that are visiting a state, especially states that have legalized recreational weed and are dumb enough to speed.
