Is BfA the worst expac?

Thoughts?

I’d say yes, I’ve never felt so unmotivated about WoW.

Absolutely. No contest.

People who didnt touch raids would probably argue WoD.
But WoD has a better story, better PVP, better class design, much better leveling, and the raids were phenomenal.

For myself, it is between BfA and Cata.

Both expansions resulted in me taking long breaks from the game.

BfA is worse than Draenor. That’s right. Shadowlands will be a good one again!!

It’s crazy the effect time has on the brain.

In terms of character progression systems, the answer is yes.

We went from the poorly thought out Azerite armor system, to the Naj pearl/benthic system which feels like it went obsolete in just a few weeks, to this cloak/corruption system all in 1 expansion and it’s all very cumbersome and annoying.

We need a better, singular expansion-long progression system that we can focus on, not these drop-in systems they toss in every other content patch.

We’ll get another reset with another new system in Shadowlands that will also get wiped eventually. Its all very annoying.

That’s all anyone has to say when people discuss WoD.
You didn’t enjoy anything! rose tinted goggles!

No. I enjoyed the story to WoD.
Maybe you didn’t.
I liked seeing the old warchiefs. I really enjoyed the quests we did with Khadgar. HFC and Tanaan Jungle was the best iteration of demon invasions they have done story wise in a good while.

So you like fan-service, cool.

Fan service?
Nobody asked to see all of the old Warchiefs come back.
You’re delusional.

BFA is fan service.

I mean, you’re the one saying the time-travel expansion had a “good story”.

Hello pot, I’m kettle.

How about in terms of story, feel, fun, cooperation?

Honestly it all seems to be a fail.

Agreed

Going back to topic, I haven’t played wod but I enjoyed the opening quest chain while leveling through legion. So yes, BFA is the worst I played so far.

You should try actually reading what you’re responding to.

I never said the story was objectively good, I said it was better, better than BFA. And that I enjoyed it.

The initial plot sucked. I disliked the time-travel alternate universe thing, but its about on-par with Sylvanas breaking a helmet in two and suddenly a whole new universe is in the sky.

The story for WoD suffered greatly with them deciding to go with only 2 patches. I enjoyed the questing story, just wasn’t a fan of how fast all the warchiefs were killed off. And then we didn’t even fight Grom.

As for which is worse…I mean I dunno they both had severely bad elements. The main issue with WoD was a complete lack of content. Even if I logged in eager to play, there wasn’t really anything to DO. Such a lack of content made that xpac feel horrible.

The issue I have with BfA is it’s gone too far in the other direction. There’s too much to do with way too much RNG on top of it. KI could have finished Nazjatar and all it’s achievements way sooner if RNG had just been on my side. Because it has so little respect for y time, I find myself playing so little.

Objectively I feel WoD is worse because of how little effort seemed to go into it. Emotionally, I feel BfA is worse because I’ve never felt drained by an xpac before.

See, I like to respond to these with zero hate for other people’s opinions, considering we all have different experiences and likes about expansions.

I personally like BFA better than WoD and Cata. I tend to skip the Cata zones when leveling now and the WoD bonus objectives are how I level through that expac so I get out of there as soon as possible.
I enjoy BFA overall, for the things I like to do, plus I like most of the zones a lot, as well as the questing and a few other things. No hate to anyone else for their thoughts though.

To me yes. Warlords was more enjoyable and still felt like WoW. BFA is some Frankenstein combining Diablo III and WoW and missing the fun parts of both.

BFA’s story seems like a set of random side quests. We from from trying to take out Sylvanis, to having a big sword stuck in the desert, to some weird detour to the bottom of the ocean, and then to staring at weird eyeball demons.

I still can’t figure out why we’re doing any of this.

No. WoD was the worst.

  • Time travel.
  • Cut content, which would be fine because every xpac has content cut but they didn’t replace it with anything.
  • No WQ, dailies or anything to do once the “amazing” story for each zone was finished.
  • The first major patch was bug fixes and a selfie camera.
  • Three raids to last 2 years.
  • Trashran.
  • Garrison destroyed capital cities and professions.
  • Introduction of Pathfinder.
  • Biggest loss of the player base. It was so bad that they stopped reporting sub numbers.
  • True welfare epics. People can say these have been in the game since TBC but we had to at least kill something to get those epics. In MoP we picked them off the ground but we have to dodge elite NPCs to do so. For this xpac you just clicked on your mission table and you were given raid-quality epics
  • Your followers had more adventures than you did.
  • The shipyard.

But! I had “great class design” as I sat around my garrison eating paint chips. YIPEE!

Edit: This is usually, not always, the people that love WoD:

I mean sure, it’s fun going through the xpac at lightening speed NOW but just try for a second thinking about sitting around with nothing to do for a year.

I’d say the writing is probably the worst part of the whole thing.

It’s really inexcusably bad.

N’Zoth could have been kind of cool even, like this persuasive old god whispering sweet nothings into your ear, instead he keeps mindlessly talking about “the truth” because the writers thought that was a cool thing to say.

100%, 8.3 would have saved it for me, but corruption RNG and unballance stopped that.
