I recently got on a toon that I boosted to level 50 in SL and just never played it. Took it to BFA and Voldun. Discovered that it was completely undergeared during the questing. But then I also discovered I was having more fun than I have had in a long time. All the gear drops and quest rewards were doubling my gear item level. I went up to level 55 in no time while having a blast and have hardly done any content in Voldun. So am I really undergeared or geared just right for how I play the game. Keep in mine that this is really my end game. I see someone here one shooting everything and think how boring that must be. But then remember that is how my grandson likes to play and he is 11.
Being undergeared can definitely be a hindrance in certain content, such as high level raids or Mythic+ dungeons, where the gear requirement is higher and the difficulty is greater. In these cases, having a higher item level can make a significant difference in your ability to perform and succeed. However, if you are enjoying the game and having fun, then being undergeared may not necessarily be a bad thing. Ultimately, it’s important to find a balance that works for you and allows you to enjoy the game at your own pace. Some players may prefer to focus on gearing up and tackling challenging content, while others may be more interested in exploring and experiencing the world at their own pace. Both approaches can be valid and enjoyable.
I can’t wait to get that toon to DF knowing it will be greatly undergeared. But then it will be a challenge completing each quest. And I would know that each equipment drop would be a major improvement. That is my sense of achievement. That is my endgame. People find different ways to have fun in the game. We should never put down someone because their idea of fun doesn’t match ours. Everyone enjoy the game and play the way you want to play.
Completely depends on the content.
If you had a shadowlands boosted character that means you instantly had decent gear for bfa questing. So you really weren’t under geared. You don’t really notice it until you come in under geared in the newest expansion.
what a strange roundabout way to say you like being rewarded with gear
What are you?
Seriously. Is this a person? An employee? An actual bot?
That post almost reads like ChatGPT has entered the arena.
Don’t they scale mobs based on your Ilvl? So when your Ilvl goes up the mobs get a tad harder to make up for it.
I recall that boosting to level 50 in Shadowlands gave what was at the time pretty awful gear. Now that BfA is scaled to level 60 (yes, I have quests completed that I didn’t turn in at the time that are now red to my alts), he would probably have been undergeared. If he likes that, fine. Not everybody wants to get destroyed by having crap gear in a zone scaled for much higher gear.
Depends on what you’re doing. There have been periods where I had doodoo for gear and it didn’t negatively impact me because I wasn’t pushing anything.
When I created that account I got a level 50 boost, then a level 60 boost when I bought DF. The level 50 starts with Ilve 68 gear. I am 3 quests away in Temple of Akunda from reaching level 58. My current Ilvl is 110. So is that undergeared when I’m getting level 150 plus gear drops. My main entered DF at Ilvl 252 and is getting level 226 gear drops by example.
just so you can look this is my level 50 boosted toon that I am working on
They very recently upgraded the ilvls of quest gear in some zones. BfA quest gear during Shadowlands was ilvl 57 at level 50. Some previously obtained gear scaled up with the new scaling, some did not.
if you plan to play with others, then ya–it’s a bad thing
A bit, yeah. It seemed to stop scaling when you were vastly over.
I’ve gone into DF with 295+ ilvl and blown mobs in two hits until mid 60s.
I’ve also gone into DF with like 160-180? Ilvl. It wasn’t really a challenge, more just what my first character felt around 67+.
Both came out the other end at 70 with around 300 ilvl. My 180 finished waking shore at like 220 or 230? Idk.
Gear makes a difference in pretty much every aspect of the game. It’ll become more obvious as we get deeper into the expansion like a year from now. Right now it’s mostly just a check for raiding and m+ which of course can be completely bypassed in certain guilds or by just buying carries. For the average player all it does is make world quests faster ie less of a chore to do.
I rarely play with others, I’m on 2 accounts with 3 mains depending on what I play. This is my main on Thunderhorn with my Ferel Inn guild. Top Sirloin is my main on Sen’Jin with my Mulgore Steak House guild. And EvilBecky is my main for my alliance guild Nerds of Stormwind on Sen’Jin. I don’t do dungeons unless forced by campaign. My end game is seeing what guild achievements I can get when my guild members are me, myself, and I.
Right now every encounter feels like taking on a rare or elite. Makes me think and pay more attention to what I’m doing. Of course there are those that watch and throw down their duel challenges. They call me coward when I refuse, but I’m no dummy. The only reason they even attempt to duel with me is because they know I’m undergeared. They get pissed off when they don’t get that quick victory. I just let them go play with themselves.
I think it depends on what.
In solo world content there’s no issue since content scales.
When it comes to group content if your performance is the same or better than others on lower gear that’s great, however I have seen some of my runs with undergeared players who also don’t know what to do and while I try to be nice sometimes it feels like I’m playing with 1-2 less players.
I have had level 10’s challenged to a duel by level 60’s. Like, I’m low level, not stupid.
