I know we released her from imprisonment in Ny’alotha, but then after you go kill the next boss you never hear from her again.
If she does die in some way:
the maw is too generic of a fate, and she would probably be charismatic and raise an army of followers there
same with revendreth. She would looooove revendreth with its heavy-handed protocols and hierarchy and implements of torture. It would be Disneyland for her
The real punishment for Azshara would be Ardenweald. Going there and seeing the raw power of nature and the arcane that she could never claim for herself. Being humbled before the winter queen, a real queen who could give her the dressing down of ages. That might be a fate befitting the most vain and power-hungry queen in azeroth’s history.
Azshara is after the true throne of power(whatever that means).
Furthermore it is shown in 9.1 PTR that Denathrius’s goals extend beyond the Shadowlands and had saw Denathrius’s defeat as a remote possibility despite him being visibly shocked at losing when it actually happened.
Azshara and Denathrius all have their own goals though how Azshara hopes to stand against an Eternal One is beyond me…
Of course the World of Warcraft: Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth Novel claims that the Earthmother become one with the World and is the origin of Elune, the Blue Child(who is one of the Earthmother’s tears) and An’she(whose clash with the Old Gods wounded him enough that Elune has to heal him thus implying that his shards of Light were the shards that became the Naaru from the Great Clash Between Light & Shadow).
Considering the Great Clash Between Light & Shadow created the Great Dark Beyond it stands to assume that if the clash between An’she and the Old Gods was the Great Clash Between Light & Shadow the Earthmother’s own clash with the Old Gods also created the Titan Pantheon we know making her part of an earlier pantheon created by the First Ones: the Pantheon of Order!
If Azeroth the Earthmother is indeed a Titan of a Titan Pantheon of Order more ancient than the Titan Pantheon we know it stands to assume the Tidemother(how similar to the title Earthmother) is also a Titan of the Pantheon of Order and since Azshara is implied(by Azshara’s Wrath, Azshara’s Pride & Azshara’s Radiance correlating with Tidemother’s Wrath, Tidemother’s Pride & Tidemother’s Radiance) to be the Tidemother…
If Azshara is indeed the Tidemother and(as far fetched as it may seem) a Titan of the Pantheon of Order than she would be equal to Denathrius(though obviously not her Planet-Sized Nieces and Nephews) if going all out. Of course that’s assuming she wouldn’t just marry him first chance she got thus providing us with a Naga and Dreadlord Expansion!
Queen Azshara is my favorite villain. She’s a lot like Illidan, and he got a redemption arc.
I’ve always hoped we could redeem the Naga (and play them!) some time in the future. The Eternal Palace and Ny’alotha showed that, despite having her own agenda that conflicts with ours, she is willing to work with us at great cost to her personal pride. So… maybe there’s hope for her? On the other hand, Azshara is always running her own machinations for power, but we’ve never seen a true endgame for her.
The biggest curiosity to me is: If killing N’Zoth was her endgame, that means her master is dead and her people are ‘free’. So… what happens with the Naga now?
Oh wow… every time they try to expand on the “cosmic lore”, they shrink it down even more. Everyone is everyone elses half brother, or intimately related to each other somehow. It’s all so… neat and tidy. I find it stupid.
Elune was always the Earthmother’s daughter(born from one of the Earthmother’s Eyes with An’she being the other) and An’she’s sister even during Classic.
The Naaru being Elune’s creations has been in there since Legion.
Furthermore the Tauren legends mentions An’she bleeding Light since Classic as well though not the bit about Elune healing him nor the bit where the bleeding of Light was caused by the Old Gods(thus revealing the nature of the Great Clash Between Light & Void that created the Great Dark Beyond)…
Blizzard is basically finding a way to fit the WoW Magazine’s mention of a Great Clash Between Light & Void creating the Cosmos into their 6 Cosmic Forces Lore and their solution was to practically shove it into their Earthmother Legends(which involve her Eyes Elune and An’she) and thus make it not being about the creation of the 6 Cosmic Realms but only of the Great Dark Beyond.
They restored the mystery of how the Cosmic Forces were created while explaining the Great Dark Beyond itself!
Personally I’m hoping Azshara is involved in Denathrius’s release(the connection between Elune & the Tides and Azshara & the Tidemother may imply that Azshara was the one who blessed the Eye that became Elune) and it leads into an Expansion where Azshara & Denathrius hijacks the Naaru(turning them into Arcane, Death and Fel Naaru) during Yrel & Xe’ra’s invasion of Azeroth leading into an Order Realm Expansion.
1 of the Zones would logically be the Arcane Realm of Azshara which would basically be a Sea Elf Empire(since Azshara is the Tidemother)!
There may be Caverns of Time Shenanigans depending on whether or not Blizzard wants a Revamp of Azeroth(they easily Revamped all the Classic Zones for Cataclysm while adding new Zones).
eh, I think you’re giving a mortal* night elf a little too much credit.
Ashara may be immortal in the elven longevity sense, but she’s not unkillable and not a deity. And I’m pretty sure Elune existed before her. Wasn’t Elune part of shaping the forest trolls into night elves from the first well of eternity? Azshara isn’t a forest troll, so she was born at some point during night elf society. She wasn’t the first queen of their society and they have worshipped Elune for a long time.
