The way my guild is talking it sounds 100x harder than BWL and MC but I also heard some people say BWL was hard but it wasn’t. So is it actually hard or is it all hype?

In a relative term, AQ requires a lot more out of a raid group than BWL.

it’s closer to retail heroic difficulty.
Almost 6,000 guilds 9/9 already. Half the servers can’t even raid AQ yet.

If you have solid leadership, it’s probably easier. If your carrying 15 dead weights, you are in trouble

Yeah, and your guild with 10 keyboard turners wiped 25 times in the Twin Emps. So much for “easy”.

Because this is 2020, and people spend more time watching others play video games than actually playing them, and they live through the accomplishments of better players and better guilds like they are their own.
Our gates haven’t opened yet, but I’m very much looking forward to AQ. BWL was a nice step up from MC, and a moderate challenge. I expect AQ to be another nice step up.

If the raid has less people (25) you can have more mechanics. It’s a lot harder to organize 40 players.

I don’t know what MC/BWL was but that wasn’t raiding…well as long as your tanks were…anyways
AQ40 is the 1st normal raid that I would actually call a raid. Not quite sure of the difficulty just yet.
Its a fairly straightforward raid. Many raids might have a few wipes figuring out twin emps or cthun mechanics, but it won’t be a road block. Just a little learning period.

40 man raids is difficult to get 40 organized. If you organized its easy. If you have players not showing up is whst makes it hard.
It’s really not that hard, unless your guild has been unable to clear MC it shouldn’t be too high of a learning curve.
Some fights can be tricky but if you’ve prepared properly and have a strategy going into it you shouldn’t take long to get them down.
It’s harder than MC/BWL. Bosses can actually wipe you pretty easily if people aren’t paying attention. The trash pulls from emps -> c’thun are pretty much as hard as boss encounters, mostly in the way that they can also wipe you if people aren’t paying attention.
There’s just a lot more personal responsibility and “interrupt things you idiot” than the previous two raids.
