So I did the pre-release quests and when SL began all my gear was either 100 or 110 (plus the higher HoA and Shroud of Resolve). So far the quest rewards, have been 98, 90, and 90 again. Is this a glitch?
I have so far replaced only 1 ring and 1 trinket from my BfA gear. Nothing else has really even been close to the level of my current gear.
I feel like thatâs pretty typical. If you had decent gear at the end of an expansion the first quest greens you see may not be an upgrade. But if you leveled straight through now youâd be getting major upgrades over your 1-50 leveling gear.
Quest rewards do not, nor have they ever scaled with item level.
Shadowlands quests are designed to be entered at ilvl 50, so a fresh new character doesnât have to do a bunch of homework before they can start playing the expansion.
This was why i was telling people not to freak out so much about gearing up alts, because you would be fine in garbage gear.
Made it to about 58 before I started seeing upgrades, but still wearing most of my old stuff at 59.5 coming from being heroic raid geared in BFA.
Iâm level 52, 2/7 through the Bastion story line, I have replaced one ring and a trinket. That is all. I to have all of the prepatch gear.
In the beginning I was getting nothing I could use at all. Now though my main is 53 and she is getting some pretty decent gear drops. Not all the time, but enough she has gone from ilvl 94 to 99. She is still in Bastion as Iâm doing All quests in the zone and taking my time.
The gear is aimed at characters that didnât get any of the pre-release gear. Also, most characters leveling up arenât going to level up their HoA or the cloak (if they even get the cloak). Theyâll be hitting shadowlands with considerably lower-level gear to start.
Uhh yeah, thatâs normal.
Remember that the âcatch upâ gear was equal to normal Nyaâlotha stuff. It was implemented to make it easier for you to jump into end-game content in BFA if you wanted to run something in the final two weeks of the expansion.
But the actual gear that youâll get from Shadowlands, at least at the start, is assuming that you just hit level 50 and have fresh gear that is around ilvl 87.
If you had relatively high ilvl in BFA, it is normal that you wont replace any gear until you hit Ardenweald, and once you get to Revendreth you will start replacing almost all your gear. That is also the reason why our characters become weaker as we level up - we are replacing what was very strong gear in BFA with gear that represent the very bottom of the pyramid in SL. You will effortlessly decimate mobs in the Maw intro, Bastion and Maldraxxus, then they will become increasingly harder in Ardenweald and Revendreth.
You wonât start getting upgrades until like 57
It seems consistent with previous expansions. Your first quest gear should be the pre-raid gear from the last patch of the previous expansion. People who get raid gear are always set for 5 or 6 levels as a reward for doing the extra work, previously.
You geared up a bit earlier, now youâre spared as you level. Just some xmog along the way for now! Shadowlands has to be accessible to those who werenât around for prepatch/earlier.
Wow thatâs not at all how I understood the catch-up gear. I thought it was to get us ready to start SL, not get us through it lol.
I mean on one hand itâs nice because Iâm one-shotting almost everything and only one mob was large enough to make a significant dent in my health, but I also enjoy seeing my iLvl go up and now I donât get to watch the meter tick up. Oh well. Iâm already beyond bored with this xpac anyway and have had to force myself to sit down and go through the storyline. I think Iâm maybe halfway through the first zone with all the blue people. This isnât boding wellâŚ
Yes, maybe I havenât been paying attention lately, but when TBC and WotLK came out, I replaced a significant amount of the previous expansions better gear with quest greens before I got out of the first zone. It hardly surprises me that Ion and Co. would put the kabosh on that. They seem to delight in making âcasualâ PvE as annoying and unrewarding as possible.
No, itâs so when people level in the future (alts that will go from 1-60) the gear progression is smoother. I didnât replace a single piece of gear until 58.
But how is not replacing a single piece of gear in 80% of an expansion âsmoothâ?
That is questing, not endgame. Normal dungeon gear and heroic and then lfr gear will replace your epics.
Iâm getting high ilvl items from Random BG rewards. Around 130 ilvl.
Because alts/new alts donât have that high gear, so the ilvl 90 gear in SL is actually an upgrade
