Every class has so much mobility and cc, not to mention the burst that can occur just seems out of whack. That and button bloat is back.
PvP doesn’t seem as popular as before, and I can see why. There has always been a lack of oversight by the devs on pvp but it just seems downright neglected.
Deflation, spec imbalances, addon bloat, and general new player unfriendliness, I’d say PVP overall is not in a good spot.
There’s a reason people quit en mass after the ret rework. Things have somehow gotten worse since then, though no one spec has quite obtained ret levels of imbalance thank the light.
Best expansion in a long time, and for my tastes, ever (quests/leveling is great, talent trees great, crafting is meaningful again but not required, solo shuffle, great pve (from what I’ve heard), easy to gear up, no substantial borrowed power, no trivial grinding/chores, alt friendly, regular tuning passes by dev team, no broken pve items being bis for pvp, and whether anyone wants to agree or not, relatively good pvp class/spec balance and pacing).
Also small extra, built in bartender/quick keybind mode for the user interface is nice, in addition to being able to import talent builds/save lots of different talent builds.
PvP participation is far from ideal, but not sure what else could be done that would really increase it (aside from just injecting more mmr to inflate ratings/adding more rewards). Have to keep in mind this game is game is roughly two decades old, and there is a lot more competition in the gaming world, not only dedicated pvp games, but other mmos that each tear into the wow playerbase.
What season didn’t have spec imbalances (or what was a more balanced season)?
Addon bloat hasn’t meaningfully changed in a decade. It has never been this easy to level, gear and jump into arena than ever before. I would argue general new player friendliness is higher than it ever has been. Brand new players understandably might not want to attempt to learn how to beat players that have nearly two decades worth of experience, but that isn’t something that can be helped outside of the new player being a prodigy.
Mmr injection/more rewards would certainly get more people queueing, and a new bg/arena or two wouldn’t hurt, but PvP is in a better spot than it has been for several expansions (more balanced, less barriers to entry, more frequent tuning passes, etc.).
Outside of the ret rework which was fubar, nothing has been astronomically broken, and for the things that were close, they were swiftly nerfed to reasonable levels.
Yes its great, I can save my allowance and buy a powerleveling™️ boost for about 10 bucks worth of gold then play any spec I want in about an hour and half after buying the greens off the AH
I would hardly say moonkins were “swiftly nerfed to reasonable levels.”
In fact at several points they got buffed and were dropping full moons on people for 400k while being the goto free wins class.
And personally I feel like addons have definitely gotten worse but then again I only really got back into rated pvp in shadowlands after mostly quitting after cata.
Fair enough. To me moonkins were one of those strong S tier but not to the point that made the game unplayable type of specs. Similar specs being hpal right after rework, dh in season 1, disc when it was pumping dps damage, unholy dk before last nerfs, etc.
Ret rework was the only thing that truly felt broken to the point that I actually stopped playing the game and waited for the inevitable nerfs.
I dont like that game im just spitting facts lol. When you start making your own content like dps hall of fames you know your mmo is dead. just like mine. Ive seen them do it here and i didnt wanna ruin there fun but that means pvp is ded. <3

Never tried final fantasy pvp, but I will admit the pve aspect of that game is incredible. For pvp though, the combat is just too clunky feeling/slow, and the gcd is too long.
Maybe it’s more casual friendly or has better rewards tied to it, but from a practically objective standpoint, there is no mmo pvp that can touch wow (yet), if not for any other reason than the fluidity/quick response feel from wow.
Ffxiv mmo pvp is more popular than wow. Pops are 100 times faster. sorry. May not feel better but its deff more popular. Last time pops were that fast was in bfa when i first started wow. It is now a ghost town compared to then.
