Is Anduin the new lich king?

I’m just curious. It looked like it in that cutscene. Someone please help me comprehend. Thank you!

No, Anduin is compelled to obey the Jailer, getting forcibly controlled like a puppet on strings, even though he’s trying to resist. Boringly enough, this is more of the “The Maw was tied to the Scourge all along!” rewrite. He isn’t the Lich King, he’s just taking on the same look because Blizzard is trying to cash in on your Wrath of the Lich King nostalgia.

It’s a pretty ham-fisted “Hey guys, remember Arthas?” narrative ploy, without understanding how Arthas worked.

Gross undertones of body violation aside, it’s coming across to me as some kind of cheeky “Oh no, you see Arthas really wasn’t all that bad. He was just being compelled like Anduin here. And Bluther threw him into the Maw. Shame Shame.”

Now that could simply be me being cynical and jaded after Legion featured Super Awesome Windchime Cheerleader for Illidan boopin’ Stormrage, but this really does feel like we’re going to have a moment in this expansion where Arthas gets absolved of everything he did because he was also a puppet of the Jailer. And Sylvanas too, really. That way we get a nice scene of Anduin forgiving Sylvanas because “You could no more resist the Jailer than I could”.

Its more than absolution for chars like arthas and sylv. It helps them tie up the scourge problem back on azeroth as we saw durring the cov campaign they are running amok back home so we will need a lich king for when we go back. Anduin can keep said helm or give the new one to bolvar.

This is exactly the vibe I get. Redemption cookies for everyone.

He can’t be the Lich King.

I am the Lich King.

…my god.

I am unsettled by how accurate this feels.

So basically this turns into a Oprah-statue-fest.

Sylvanas! You get a statue!
Arthas! You get a statue!
Everyone gets a statue!

I mean, in fairness Stormwind needs some new statuary now that all but one of the Statues in Stormwind are of people who are actually still alive.

My only regret is they’ll be replaced with that terrible “Character Model but monochrome” idea of Statuary instead of the stuff that actually looks like a representation of the person as carved from stone that the statues presently are.

Can some other cities besides SW pls get some updates? Can we make some of them usable for RP? How hard would it be to start some repairs on somewhere besides SW?

Careful with that kind of talk. They’ll nuke Exodar and Silvermoon next.

I’d love to see Thunder Bluff get an update. It’s basically just a tent city.

Ever since that dev pointed out that the story has just been main characters soaking up attention, I’ve been unable to see anything else. Seeing Anduin, Sylvanas, Tyrande or Thrall just makes me equal amounts of tired.

I missed that dev comment, but it’s spot on. Every expac we have a “featured” cast of 1 or more main characters to take the spotlight. No spotlight on our characters, except to call us “champion” when most of us would rather (judging by comments) be just normal adventurers.

I think I might like Genn and Lor’themar more because they avoided this expansion.

At least Khadgar has retired to Karazhan.

If we never see him again, it’ll be too soon for me.

It is safe in the Lore Hole.

I think I understand. Thank you! All of you!

I’m basically pulling a angry fan moment but Art hu as and the Lich King and all of it is, in my book, forever unrelated to the Jailer or the Maw or anything related to Shadowlands. I don’t care if it’s wrong, but Arthas is the big reason so many people loved Wrath and part of the reason WoW was successful in the first place. People loved the Lich King as a villain and Arthas’s fall. They’re just going to run his story into the ground and I absolutely refuse to acknowledge it.

Right now ALL of my characters are basically ignoring Shadowlands as a story, just there’s something big going down, Thrall and Baine are missing and Sylvanas is involved…But the world is otherwise still running. Still gold to make, villages to save, etc.

It doesn’t really concern them and never will (unless Azeroth as a whole gets dragged into the Shadowlands).

Is this really a new thread? Here are some other hot spoilers; Trump lost the election and Thanos died. lol
