Is Anduin the new Lich King?

So, I’ve watched the cinematic a few times. Is he just possessed by the spirt of Arthas, the Lich King, or is he now the new Lich King? What’s going on.

No

He’s just soloing current content.

The jailer is possessing his body with his soul basically locked up in side itself. No new Lich King, or Arthas, or such nonsense. Just a vessel for the jailer to wear like a set of clothes.

He’s possessed by the Jailer. That shiny new mourneblade linked their souls together so he would become a puppet champion to control. A vessel the Jailer can use outside of the Maw. It’s different from the Lich King. That particular gear was created to make and rule the Scourge, Anduin was not.

Arthas is rotting in the Jailer’s dungeon and has no part in any of this.

Anduin is Zoval’s soulbind.

I feel like Arthas is involved somehow, maybe he is the sword. Uther’s reaction and the little musical moment of Invincible playing when he sees Anduin. Bearing in mind he doesnt know Anduin and if he ever saw him it was as an infant, so why would he “recognize” something in him if it wasnt somehow related to Arthas? Arthas who was dumped into the maw and …we don’t know anything further about what happened to his soul in there. They arent going to just forget about him after hinting at him being there in the animated cinematics before release, AND it being pivotal to Uther’s change.

Proof? You think Jailer wouldnt put someone like Arthas to use after being influenced by tools of the jailer to set things in motion on Azeroth?

Redeem Arthas

Let Arthas rule Stormwind

The Jailer was controlling Arthas.

Well let’s see he sees a long haired blonde King ( Not like that wouldn’t stir a reaction ) and since he was killed by a weapon of the Maw he probably felt some kind of similar presence .

They showed him momentarily snap back into his own self before his eyes glowed blue. I do not see him going full Lich King with these added details.

Based on his exchange w/ the Archon he is possessed by the jailer. Uther’s reaction to him I believe is a retcon on Arthas. He wasn’t a fallen hero who turned against everything he stood for but a dupe possessed.

Yeah, not one of their better stories.

Have you done any of Shadowlands yet ?

Because if not I wouldn’t want to spoil anything for your but if you have then I will give you a little detail you might of missed .

Regardless of whether it’s possession or mind controll, it’s terrible writing and it ruins Anduin’s character.

In BfA’s Battle for Lordaeron, the cinematic where Anduin and the Alliance march into the throne room, with clear callbacks to the cinematic from Warcraft III where Arthas returns from Northrend, it was quite well established that Anduin is “Arthas as he should have been”…an effective foil. By reforging him into a Minion that is basically just another Arthas, this dynamic is ruined. Better option would’ve been to have Sylvanas refuse to turn Anduin, making one good decision in her unlife, and try to redeem herself…only to fail and die with the Jailer saying “…it matters not. My plan remains unaltered!”

Granted we don’t know Arthas’ exact fate, but Blizz hinted we’d be seeing notable prisoners in the next raid. The Jailer’s private collection. Worthy to guess we’ll see a certain prince there. Where else would he be? The Maw itself is a prison world and Arthas was a failed pawn dropped into it.

Blizz actually did explain this today. They said Uther recognized the Maw energy within Anduin because it resonated with his own Maw inflicted wound. And Uther noted the physically similarity of a blonde haired kingly figure strolling past, brings up old memories. It wasn’t due to Arthas’ actual spirit.

I hate all of this. Arthas was a great character and had a good death. This altering his story is ruining that.

That’s trendy though I suppose, going back and tweaking stories to fit bad writing.

I am wondering how they will make Sylvanas kill the jailer. Throwing him down a shaft on the death star might be a little much.

The Jailer didnt send anduin

The church did

After they heard the archon was spending time in goldshire with those legs.

No he is dominated by the jailer and that was the voice and the will of the jailor coming out.

Yeah, this re-writing of Arthas is getting extremely annoying. He had an amazing story and an amazing end. Why are they hellbent on reviving it into a worse, 2021 Blizzard version of him, when 2021 Blizzard is horrible?

It’s very annoying.

None of the above. The Jailer has control over him, which Anduin is fighting against.
