Deep within the Jailer’s vaults in Torghast there is an place where he keeps some of his most prized or important soul fragments, among which are Uther’s as well as presumably Sylvanas’.
One in particular stood out to me though…that of the ‘Golden King.’
It seems like these soul shards only come into being when they are shattered by a mourneblade such as Frostmourne, so I began to wonder who it could be.
My first immediate thought was Varian, but I subsequently dismissed it just as quickly since he didn’t die from a mourneblade and furthermore died before the Arbiter was incapacitated so there’s seemingly no possibility of him ending up there.
I next considered that maybe it’s that of King Terenas II or Anasterian Sunstrider. I suppose there’s a possibility since they both died to Frostmourne, but since neither were utilized by the Scourge in any way it doesn’t make much sense why the Jailer would hang onto their soul fragments.
Admittedly though, he didn’t make use of Uther either so I guess it remains a distinct possibility.
But then I considered that it could also mean Anduin since in my opinion at least the ‘Golden King’ title would seem to fit him best given his connection to the Light.
If this is true however, then it would seem to imply that Anduin could now be considered an Undead as his soul would have had to have been claimed by a mourneblade like Kingsbane which would mean that in the absence of serving the Jailer willingly, Sylvanas was forced to kill him with that same blade.
This would definitely make the story a lot darker and imply there’s more than just that armor or blade controlling his will.
Does anyone know of any other information that supports/disproves this theory? And how would you feel if Anduin turned out to be Undead and beyond restoration to his mortal state?
