Is Anduin a villain to The Horde?

And is the Horde even suppose to see him as one?

I ask this since I’ve bought an expansion where the main selling point is to hunker down with your faction for the “ultimate showdown”, But everyone’s so divided on the actions of a single leader: Slyvano Bussotti. Everyone’s gone on about whether or not she deserves to be squashed by the Alliance, If it’s the Horde that need to squash her not following the code of honor that Saurfang has been hooked on, and even the Horde needing the BIG squash by extension for putting her in charge in the first place.

While all that goes on with Sylvanas, what has the Anduin done? Get forked during the Siege of Undercity, where a large portion of his troops got blighted? It was never really a big win for the Alliance since Sylvanas took the right steps beforehand to counter the assault. When it comes to the war campaign, Anduin’s inaction has only lead to Night Elf fans to wanna give him the axe aswell.

What actions has Anduin’s character ever done at this point to put him at odds with the Horde? We’ve gotten a wide range of Alliance character’s taking action during BfA attacking Horde forces with clear intentions to dismantle it (HMMMMMM…)

He makes threats to Sylvanas time to time, but never the Horde as a whole. Logically it should be a threat to the Horde, but the writers are intentionally making Sylvanas do messed up stuff so that everyone who enjoy’s the Horde is at each other’s throats over her crap instead. And it’s not like anyone Alliance side believes he’ll do anything but shape the Horde in his own image, example being releasing Saurfang. This puts him to either be favored by Saurfang fans for helping them out , or hated by them some more by having the enemy faction aid in Saurfang’s escape. Of coarse anyone in favor of Sylvanas keeping her role as warcheif isn’t too pleased by his actions, but for why even write a story where the Horde get’s divided like this yet again?

Shouldn’t forget Alliance fans who are either on his side through all this, or ones who are more in favor of the Night Elves’ need to get revenge for Teldrassil?

Does Blizz really want us to be split into quadrants instead of the TWO sided war that was promised before the expansion released? It wasn’t impossible for them to do this, even with Sylvanas in charge, but why rehash MoP in such a way that by the end of the expansion, only a fourth of the player base is going to feel any sense of pride and accomplishment  in the end? Just doesn’t seem smart, especially given the current situation with stocks atm.

No, not really, but the story is forcing us to believe he is anyways. Sylvanas is more of a threat to us than he is, she’s smarter and more ruthless and is willing to throw our lives away in the process for personal gain.

Anduin wasn’t going out of his way to endorse attacks on us, or encroaching on Horde territory, or trying to steal our freedom. He literally just wants peace with us, even after his dad said he’d annihilate us if we acted without honor again, even after Sylvanas torched Telldrassil, he still wants to just have world peace after Sylvanas is deposed.

We’re the idiots that decided we need to start a war because the Alliance MIGHT attack us in 100 years.

High King Anduin loves the Horde as much as his own people. We know this from every internal monologue he’s ever been written to have.

He’s just a pure cinnamon-roll-too-sweet-for-this-world.

Honestly bro this one made me laugh, I had to comment. Haha
Now I can imagine a swift return to Skyrim and the “Someone stole your sweet roll.” lol

I think more Alliance players than Horde players hate Anduin.

Anduin
ever not wrong.

Sorry, OP. An Author’s pet is never wrong.

It would honestly help the horde story immensely if we were given any Alliance character that we are actively allowed to view as an antagonist.

Can confirm, I can’t stand the little bastard.

Used to be Genn, but then BtS shifted him focus mainly on Sylvanas, despite the Gileans heavy roots into being Anti-Horde. Now it’s just Tyrande and Malf. Despite the new Darkshore stuff, they haven’t really been much of a threat outside of the crap that was discussed in the novellas. Hoping we see some Worgen on Darkshore atleast, but I haven’t heard much besides some Rambo guy being sent in to become Shandris’ love interest.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Jaina, what an idiot I am! She seems to be the real MVP in this whole conflict for the Alliance.

Rogers or bust. Solves the problem both sides have with their leaders in a single move.

The Horde does have a character of that sort, but it’s not Anduin. It’s Genn Greymane. His hatred for Sylvanas due to the death of his son has driven him over the edge, in some respects.

Let’s got back to the events at the start of Legion. Varian and Sylvanas were somewhat on speaking terms, and actually working together to defeat the Legion. Then we come to the point in the story where the Horde are going to provide covering fire from that ridge.

Except they get jumped from behind and have to pull back to save their own skins. Varian dies as a result of this, and the next thing we know, Genn is telling Anduin that Sylvanas is a traitor and should not be trusted, and thus we wind up in the current state of affairs.

However, what about the Anduin that we saw during the Lion’s Landing campaign in Pandaria? Despite his youth, he shows remarkable “foreign policy smarts”, understanding that things aren’t always as they initially seem, and that you do need to look a little deeper to see what’s really going on.

That Anduin, sure he lost his Father, but I see him as being someone who might have tried to find out exactly what happened. If nothing else, whatever happened on that ridge, it was serious enough that Vol’Jin perished. So something pretty bad happened, that’s impossible to deny.

And even now, we see this Anduin beginning to show his colors, look at the recent exchange between him and the imprisoned Saurfang. That’s the Anduin with the “foreign policy smarts” I was talking about.

So no, Aduin Wrynn is not an outright villain to the Horde, not the way I’d say Genn Greymane is. Now, if Sylvanas dies, it will be very interesting to watch what happens, since Genn will have lost the target of his hatred.

Awkwardly, it’s the exact opposite. Anduin is the Horde’s best chance for survival.

He’s just incompetent enough of a commander that we might actually pull a win against him and even if we don’t he’s so unabashedly pure hearted and good that the worst we will get if he wins is Sylvanas being removed from power and maybe be forced to pay war reparations.

It’s like fighting an enemy who is wearing pillows on his hands and keeps catching us every time we fall because he accidentally shoved us too hard. Then he apologizes for being too rough.

All while we are screaming at him for being a tyrant and trying to violently rip out his eyes.

I agree, but they went against that in all the novels. Now he is okay with everyone but Sylvanas.

Still mad at Blizzard’s false advertising.

Yeppers. This was my first expansion and it might be my last as well if things pan out the way nearly everyone’s expecting. Can take a look back on my thoughts on how to fix things on the old forums, but I’d rather hold off on repeating it all over again until I get to to all the stuff in 8.1.

I’d have to say Blizzard really got the Narrative wrong this expansion. There is very little faction pride on either side. The Horde right at the beginning of the expansion are painted very visibly as the bad guys with a warchief who will require removing again.

On the Alliance side we aren’t even allowed to want to defeat the Horde we are only fighting for peace according to our leaders. We are only allowed to stop the bad lady from hurting the Horde.

Blizzard out right lied when they advised this wasn’t a retread of MOP. Its basically a play by play at this point.

This is why his inevitable fall from grace will, in Blizz’s mind, be so gosh darned delicious.

And then it will all become clear. The comic we got wasn’t a premonition of his valiant defense in the future, but an omen of the war monger to come.

I think the faction war is a huge distraction. Remember where this expansion started: with the Titan Soul of the world bleeding out from a mile-high sword sticking out of Silithus.

I don’t care about Alliance or Horde. I don’t want my planet to die. I think that, overall, Anduin is more likely to share that aim than crazypants Sylvanas.

i don’t really hate him, let’s say a 50-50 sometimes he works really hard to make me dislike him.
i feel like he is the only reason why we aren’t unleashed in a killing spree, let us be vengeful, tyranical and racist maniacs that all claim that we are.
but yet alliance leaders seems to respect him way too much that even our most aggressive characters are being keeping in check.
and if there is something that i hate is the high king nonsense… just… why?!
but in the other hand at least represent what the alliance should be about…protect, healing… and probably “justice” in an unjust world.

The words “Anduin” and “Villain” could possibly be the two most polar opposites of anything in existance.
