Is anduin a paladin or a priest?

so in the books including the newest one, they say he’s a priest. but like. as king he has plate armor and can wield a sword. i feel like he should be a pally but “before the storm” still refers to him as a priest.

what a mystery…

i mean i guess tyrande is a priestess and she has a bow so apparently rules dont apply to priests lol

No, the rules just don’t apply to hero characters.

He’s a non player character, not a player character. He isn’t held to the same class limitations we are. Officially I believe he is a “priest” though.

He’s a priest. Paladins are fundamentally different, they’re actually infused with the Light. It’s a whole process to do that Anduin never did. Just wearing armor or a sword won’t make you one.

He is a priest

but he is also the King.

Of course they are going to deck him out in the best armor they possibly can.

Just think of King as a special NPC only class if you need gameplay reasoning.

Yep. Kings aren’t restricted by armor/weapon type. Anduin is already weak enough as a character. Do people expect him to be dilly dallying around battles in cloth robes?

Anduin was originally a priest, but after his father died, he started taking combat training seriously, yet he didn’t want to abandon the light. A Paladin was the natural next step for him. So currently, he is a Paladin.

You don’t progress from one to the other. He’s still a priest.

“Priest, actually. Despite the armour… and sword. But you know what? It’s fine.”

No, insofar as he has a character class, he remains, as he has been, a Priest. That’s Blizzard’s official designation.
