I have a pet boar that knows charge, roar, and now bite. I have found that it has been having issues holding aggro, and now I wonder if bite is running its focus down so it can’t cast roar. Is 3 abilities too much? Will Bestial Discipline make a difference?
I only have Growl on auto cast, and manually click on the attack button when the pet has focus to spare. Otherwise the attacks use up all the focus and growl isn’t applied as soon as it’s off cooldown and that causes aggro issues.
Make sure you train the increased ranks of growl. In my experience a boar won’t have any focus issues, but a pet with bite+claw can run out of focus.
If you haven’t played a hunter in ERA, pets don’t hold agro that well even for BM hunters, and you will need to be careful on what you’re fighting. Some things to consider:
- Hunter pets are often a level behind you, this makes fighting anything above your level difficult for the pet because they will have an extremely high miss rate.
- Pet threat is low, if your using lots of specials, your pets simply not going to out threat you. they don’t have a real taunt, so they will likely never keep up with aimed/multi rotations.
- Pet damage abilities are somewhat spiky, make sure your upgrading your pets charge, and bite, probably the first thing to check if you suddenly start pulling when you weren’t before.
- While boars are amazing pets with charge at levels below the mid 30s their lack of a focus dump can hurt them a bit especially at higher levels. That said if you switch to a cat/bird/etc don’t use a focus dump such as claw or screech and an attack like bite, just go with a single focus dump.
Also, growl loses its effectiveness as the mobs get tougher. The last couple levels before they learn a new growl you have to give your pet a little more time to build aggro before you start to attack.
I was having issues also. I didn’t remember it being so bad, but I did realize I gave my boar bite and shut it off auto cast and it’s been a bit better.
Still not great, but passable. Before shutting it off I’d pull agro with auto shoot.
yeah I hope you guys don’t expect pets to hold aggro like a magnet that would be too easy.
Nor do you want them to, bring me my loot.
Ive been using a fleshripper from westfall. Screech is awesome for dungeons but you definitely gotta turn auto off when out in the world questing or it uses that over growl seemingly 80% of the time.
Charge is fine but all you need is Growl and Bite, avoid Bite+Claw. You will outthreat your pet at some point, this is normal.
I’m no expert but I only have growl and 1 DPS ability on auto cast. It makes no sense to have growl, claw and Bite
I generally dont use Claw as it has really low energy costs so it is constantly being used instead of maybe Growl. So I run with Growl and Bite
My cats dash bite growl and claw all on auto cast.
