IRL Profession?

I work in IT- specifically the Help Desk portion of IT (went to school for programming, but you know how that works out :man_shrugging:t5:) Does your job affect your gaming? Do you have any people at work that play with you?

Also- I had this thought because I spoke with our CEO, he’s a gamer; but mostly for Zelda and Switch games. When I mentioned World of Warcraft, he said it was too daunting because of the mouse and keyboard (“Too many buttons!”), haha!

Retired corporate I.T. Worked mostly on SCCM toward the end.

A career boot strapper as client/server computing didn’t exist when I was in college. Likewise no PCs either.

Was Signal comms and TCF geek squad in the Army, and it was a coworker who gave me a trial key in 2008. But all of them quit by Mists, and I’ve been solo ever since

Man, it sucks to play with people and have them leave the game behind. I miss my old guild, Paragon on Velen. There was a couple that ran it and they were the sweetest but then one day they stopped playing and never said a word and deleted their Facebook. I wish I knew what happened as they were good friends, but regardless I’m still playing the game solo as well!

Keeping it general, I’m a software engineer.
Stuff like data visualization, marketing campaigns and interactive experiences.

I’ve been working remote since the beginning 2020 so if anything I think my work aids my ability to play WoW, as I usually run a BG or something during my hour lunch break.

But sometimes I do work overtime, for example I just got done fixing a bug in one of our Azure functions. I didn’t have to do it, but I knew how to fix it and it’s been bothering me. So that’s a Sunday evening I’ve so far spent working, not playing a game or doing some other hobby.

None of my IRL friends play WoW. My brother used to, but even he quit in BFA.

I certainly hope your profession is not your identity, otherwise that would be incredibly boring. I feel that everyone has some form of personality beyond their work persona.

Working at the hospital in my town, not medical, but have seen the worst of Covid and seen it get better then go bad again. Even seen things only doctors and nurses should ever see, dead bodies being wheeled out of patient rooms during the Covid bad times.

Now just hoping it doesn’t get any worse but knowing people are still idiots and don’t believe the doctors and scientists I fear Covid could spike again and we are back to square one.

I’ve been retired 3 1/2 years, but when I was working, I was at Lowes at the customer service desk. There were a couple of co-workers who also played WoW and we had some fun conversations. I worked the 6am to noon shift M-F, so I was always available in the evenings for my WoW.
