IPv6 *Still* not working properly since SL Launch

IPv6 had been working perfectly for me in wow for 5+ years I had it enabled. Ever since just before Shadowlands launched, IPv6 very rarely connects.
It still connects to “Home” via IPv6 100% of the time, but 99% of the time connects to “World” as IPv4.

I have been in contact with the routing dept of my ISP (Telus) several times and they assure me their tests show everything is working fine on their end.
They have concluded that “The issue is on the Blizzard side of things”

Wow is the only game that I have this problem with and everything else I do connects via IPv6 with no issues and also passes all tests on the IPv6 check sites.

Could you please look into this?
Thanks!

There’s little to any difference in performance between the two protocols, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Could be a DNS issue, maybe try changing your router to use a different set of them for your IPv4 and IPv6. Personally, I use cloudflare:

  • IPv4: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
  • IPv6: 2606:4700:4700::1111 and 2606:4700:4700::1001

If you are unfamiliar with changing those settings, look up your router for guides on it.

You can use sites like https://test-ipv6.com/ and https://ipv6-test.com/ to test and make sure it’s all working correctly.

I do notice quite a big difference when wow connects via IPv6 vs IPv4. Especially when lots of things are happening at once.

I appreciate your help and just tried your suggestion above - unfortunately it never fixed it. If you can think of anything else for me to try, please let me know!

Also I checked the sites you linked and everything is working correctly.

I’m going to be that person that says that’s probably just placebo. At best, it might make a 1-5ms difference in both ping and jitter depending on your ISP’s load and the various QoS settings on hops leading to the game server, which is an imperceptible difference to the human brain, assuming neither protocol has any packet loss happening.

I tried a couple hours ago to log into wow and it put my on v6 home/v4 for world, just tried again and it put me on v6 for both. It’s hit and miss as to which you’ll get.

I just tried tonight and I see I’m now getting IPv6 in my NF covenant, Oribos and The Maw. It did revert back to IPv4 when I flew out of my covenant to do a WQ in Ardenweald and when I went to main raid.

So yeah definitely hit and miss

Quick update: It looked like some work was being done with this (?) since I suddenly had IPv6 connectivity about 60% of the time where I had 1% before. This lasted till roughly 6 days ago and now it’s always v6 home / v4 world like it was before.
