He keeps thinking of the philosophical BS while ignoring practicality. He is destroying WoW to do what he thinks will make people stay subbed longer and hiding it under a guise of philosophical game design. Every time he talks you know nothing said will beneficial or a real answer. What a joke.
Show us on the doll where Ion touched you…
pick a spot, lol
Must be a buncha Ion’ites all spamming trolls w/ no substantial counter points. Pathetic…
Ion is definitely not impressing me as someone who knows the minds of gamers in general. He ticks off the high end gamers with crap like removing master loot…and everyone else with…well, everything else he does.
I think HE thinks his ideas are far better than the are.
Though I do not agree with some of the decisions that appear to be his, I am 99% there are people above him that are using behavioral models and game theory pointing the game towards a certain direction.
People under estimate the amount of game play data they can suck out of the game and use that to design features (and sales).

Really no points to counter it’s all conjecture on your part…but again hands you the doll show us
I think Ion looks at the game through the eyes of a guy who has been in the same guild for a decade and has never had to worry about not getting in to a group.
So that would make Ion a Lawyer-Philosopher-Developer?
Talk about a hybrid class!
/pauses for laughs and applause
Thanks, I’ll be here all week. And please don’t forget to tip your server!
/moo
But if their models lead to the conclusions that classic was a bad idea and corruption was a good one…
Wow has lasted this long thanks to Blizzard. Mistakes have been made sure, but lets be real here. The player base is the worse part of wow, and Ion is right about this.
I’m glad Ion at last understands the problem of meta, and the problem of pugging groups. He is still a little clueless on how people pug groups, but once he catches up to speed. I bet you big changes will be coming to wow. Bigger than rpg choices.
This isn’t a one-person show. Why so much hate on this one man?
You shouldn’t have started this thread, you don’t know anyone else’s problems.
Each of us barely knows our own problems.
Besides, it’s not like he’s working on WoW all by himself, his very own decisions, etc…
There are others. There’s always others. It doesn’t matter. The next expac will be good or it won’t and this game will survive and thrive or it won’t.
We’ll just have to see. Til then, try not to wish ill upon others. You never know when all those wishes will boomerang.
Unfortunately Ion’s job doesn’t depend on making a fun game, or pleasing us, his job depends upon doing what will look good at a quarterly investors call. He’ll do whatever it takes to maintain a profit while keeping costs as low as possible. That equals less content and more grind. Blizzard has taken to worshipping at the alter of the mobile game gods, (little content, lots of grind and microtransactions), and that’s where this game is headed as long as enough of us stick around.
Exactly, people give ion too much credit imo lol…
Now don’t get me wrong some of their decisions erkk the hell out of me Pathfinder 2 I am looking at you…
heh…yeah…where my wife worked for the last 15 years before literally having to quit or lose some sanity points, they had a convention where they passed some book to all the higher ups to read.
they then proceeded to use the worst corporate business model I think Ive ever seen to ‘restructure’ and ended up losing at least half of their skilled employees over 800+ branches. The ones who did stay were expected to take something to the tune of a 30% pay cut…ie “we’re letting you go, but oh if you want to be rehired its at a lower payrate”
They had nearly a dozen more employees at the branch she worked at all these years who just quit. Most of them ad been there for years.
The company now is is complete chaos and it all started with two new CEOs, one of which who quit herself and joined another big name company who is now going bankrupt after SHE got a multimillion $$$ deal to sign on, lmbo.
These companies like to THINK they know what is best but clearly a large number of them wouldnt last a second in business if they had real competition to face. Some of them only make it as long as they do because they had smarter predecessors…or theyre in some niche type of business where they have loyal customers with money to burn who’ll put up with anything to get the product.
Sometimes its both.
Sound familiar?
You do have to admit…this game has become more and more questionable since the 2014-2016 timeframe. The sub numbers reflect it.
Who came into power during those years?
I don’t know about Ion specifically, but a lot of the controversial choices in the past couple of expacs seem to me that someone/a group a people with influence just don’t know when to admit a system isn’t working as they envisioned it.
Pretty much every time they give interviews on these systems they seem good in theory, but don’t work because they failed to balance it again.
The only joke here are the players who constantly bash Ion, the game, or the company. If you think you can do better then go apply and show us what you can do, or better yet, become a game developer and put WoW under.
BfA was Ions first expansion release as game director and we have no known sub numbers.
