IO is an illusion of safety

The problem I keep telling people with IO is that it is nothing more than a completion list, it shows what you have completed and that’s it. You could put the 5 top IO players in the game (top tank, top healer and top 3 DPS) in the same group and it could all fall apart.

I got a mage one day in BFA season 4, 3K IO, 485 iLVL, full mastery corruption, no AOE cap, no DR on stats, dude was pulling 15K DPS and done absolutely everything wrong including playing so bad on boss 3 of UR that we just couldn’t kill it. I had to kick the guy out and finish the run as a 4 man he was so bad.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, I have had that many terrible pug runs and even watching my guild complain, it’s really bad. We have pretty much come to the conclusion that if you join or form a pug you have a high chance of people leaving or being so bad it’s not worth continuing no matter what IO they are.

I don’t know that it’s quite that bad. My experience in keys just hasn’t been that way. Even good players make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes ruin the key. You’re always going to have those outliers, but there’s really no reason not to take the appropriate IO score for your key. It may very well fall apart but you’re giving yourself the best chance.

Gonna assume the best and say that mage likely pulled by mistake and felt embarrassed.

But in general if I see someone whose IO ridiculously outplays my key I don’t take them since they’re usually the problem point. Like a ret paladin whose IO was 200 above mine who died on Kaal because he didn’t know how to jump in the shield, then blamed me, and then died again on the second attempt (we did time it though).

Snarky comment, do you feel better now? Good, now go back and read the post again, we had the big guy and the first pack, he pulled the back pack as well.

Why do the snarkiest commenters never read the posts?

I dont think you know what mitigating means.

Someone post the exact same thing but the opposite… Atleast be a bit more clever

I’ve done it on my mage.

Pulled the third boss in SD because I accidently targetted her with scorch.

But it was just a +2 so we smashed the trash and the boss and laughed about it. Point is, these things happen. And tab target can sometimes be . . . stupid lol.

Mage was a clown for leaving though.

I’ve definitely tab targeted and messed up before. No one is perfect. Leaving tho after one pull is sad. Multiple wipes id understand but after first pull? Maybe something came up.

I had an experience with io players that all had decent io in a +13 SD on an alt. Tank was great. The three dps were doing less than 3k on second boss. The add was staying alive for so long I couldn’t heal them. They all started getting mad and cursing. Pointing fingers at who was worse at mechanics and not realizing none of them could get the add down quick enough. I think a lot of people are paying for key carries and then expect to be able to keep up in +10s. The dps were all 202 or lower. I should’ve bounced when I saw how low their ilvl was For the key but raider io told me a diff message. It isn’t perfect for sure.
