I walked solo into an invasion that was probably 15% left and asked for an invite as many of us have been doing(regardless of HP left, but interest of full disclosure I’ll include that bit). Since there were already so many people there, I expected this would at the best just be ignored, which is perfectly acceptable, I’m not entitled to an invite. But what I keep seeing more of is “inv” requests being met with hostility. Despite the person being hostile probably existing in their group by result of asking… for an invite.
Rather than leave I just stood in the spawn circle of a shade and announce to people in /say “I have the weakaura and intend on taking these”. Unbeknownst to them, I have only 5 runes in my inventory so I literally couldn’t take them. Instantly invited by people (I don’t accept it) and a cacophony of messages in /say and /whisper either telling me to enjoy my ban, or people encouraging me to grief the large group. But about the “enjoy my ban”… A bit of fact checking and you would quickly realize that all I’m doing is standing where a mob spawns, as it’s intended, to speak to the shadow and pay 8 runes, as intended. Doing the event… as intended. All I did was say I have a weakaura, which may or not even be true.
If I am not entitled to a group invite (Hint: I’m not) than the group of 40 that did all the work leading up to the end, are not entitled to any of their tags.
Now you’d be well within a valid point by stating that this is an issue with community toxicity, and I do agree on a number of levels, I just think that had the design been… more community friendly, it wouldn’t be this way. It’s at least a symptom though for sure.
TL;DR The way people interact with this game is so utterly lost on the people developing SoD that they are unable to anticipate that this is what they were setting up for it’s players. From the initial releases of bloodmoon and BRM events to the more recent Kara attunements and invasion mechanics. Set up situations to bring community together, not tear it apart. It’s an MMO.
Enjoy your coffee, Enjoy your day, hope to catch you around.
