Noticed this yesterday when grinding and doing arenas. Sometimes when I tab-target or when a mob dies and auto-targets another mob and i press death coil the game will say invalid target. I am using no macros for death coil or targeting (besides focus macros on a few spells). This been happening to anyone else?

Try pressing the ALT key on your keyboard next time it happens. I haven’t occured this bug in a long time myself, but this does sound similar.
I noticed this recently when tab targeting with howling blast while leveling. Retargeting fixes it but it’s pretty annoying. Recommend submitting a bug report.
