Has happened to me a few times since BFA launch. Before then I had never experienced it. It happens in instances and !@#$, which is UNACCEPTABLE. We almost just lost an expedition because I couldn't attack anything, and couldn't cast things like Guardian Spirit on my teammates.
This needs to be fixed. It's absurd that this thread started in 2011. Reloading fixed it for like... a second. It let me cast Smite once, and then went back to it's bull!@#$. I've been able to fix it by leaving the instance and coming back in it. but reloading and relogging don't work for me.

Iâve noticed alt-tabbing out of the game and back in usually fixes this for me. No idea why, but itâs much quicker than reloading or relogging.
It might have something to do with the new âfullscreenâ mode thatâs not actually a fullscreen mode.
This bug was first reported way back in March 2011 so 7 and 1/2 year old bug rules out ânewâ feature.
I have experienced this bug. It seems to occur if I alt-tabbed to something then back to the game. If I spammed, alt, ctrl, and shift key a few times, often time I can play as normal, it seems WoW thinks I am holding one of the key down when I switched apps and remained stuck when I switched back to WoW.
So I finally get the motivation to log in and play, I jump into an IE and get stuck with âinvalid target.â Just cancel my sub and refund my money if you donât want me playing. Motivation gone, I log out without finishing anything (I was booted for only being able to auto attack.)
The same thing happened to me today in mythic+, I couldnât use my offensive abilities on any target. I tried relogging but the servers were in the maintenance period after several attempts I couldnât log in again. Probably there are some people hating me right nowâŚ

Why has this not been fixed yet? This has been going on for like 3 expansions now. It comes at the worse time, and the only way to fix it is to have to logout and re-log in. It just happened to me in the Dal Sewers when a Rogue jumped me. Lucky someone else started to attack him so I could get away.

I have blown some keys loading in with this only to realize I canât fire off anything. It is the worst when it happens when I am tanking and I run in and it is too late.
I have had a /reload not fix it I just had it still up with I logged out and back in. Normally I have to completely close everything log into a different character and than back to the one that bugged out. Forcing the character to actually time out.
Iâm also experiencing this. Sometimes dying resolves it. Sometimes it doesnât.
I can still target myself.
I can tab target, but I canât interact with enemies or allies that way.
Iâm sorry to necro this, but it is December 2020, Shadowlands has already launched, and the bug is still alive.
