I might be late to the party when I say this but I just noticed that the new DK starting zone is only limited to the allied races and the pandaren. All other races still have Arthas as their first quest giver.
Is there a reason behind this keeping this segregation that I missed. Why can’t the overhaul be applied to the old races as well? I only ask because I wanted to create a blood elf DK but I can’t experience the new questline unless I make an allied race DK Seems unnecessary, no?
Edit: Since some people are quick to misconstrue, let me make it clear that I’m not asking for the old starting zone and quests to be completely deleted from the game. However, I am asking for new DK players to be given an option to choose their starting zone, same as the new leveling experience offers a choice between Exile’s Reach and your racial city.
I know all of this. My question was more pertaining to why the original DK races as well cannot be brought into the fold of the new Lich King by starting in the same zone as the new races.
It’s alright that there might be nothing much that’s new to do at all, but it takes quite a while for the old races to complete all the quests in the starting zone and eventually travel to the main city. It just feels like a hassle at this point and since Arthas is no longer the LK either, it feels inconsistent.
Again, not what I asked. Consider this in terms of in-game reality. I’m a young blood elf only recently trying to find her way into the world and I decide to join the death knights with my vulpera friend. However, I get phased into the past but she stays in the present, because…?
Personally, I think it was a bit of wanting to add some flavor to DKs by splitting them into Veterans of the Third and Fourth Wars and a bit of not wanting to deal with the backlash of removing the old zone.
WHY would anyone want to remove the old Death Knight starter quests? They were so awesome, with the original DKs ripping apart the mortal fanatics in a literal war, making plagues, and assulting the holy grounds. OK, the bit on how they turned (kinda) good made no sense, but well ignore that because the rest was sweet.
OK, if you want to experience the “new” questline, get ready, I’ll play it for you:
Hey, your a Death Knight now. Here, pick a cool weapon that will weaker then your heirloom. Now go away.
My guess is they just don’t care enough to spend the time and resources to code in the choice just for the old races. I mean the new starting story for the ARs and Pandas is so phoned in and sad it’s obvious they didn’t put much time or thought into it, the idea of doing the extra work to let everyone else do it prolly didn’t even enter their minds.
Agreed, it’s quite sad. I was curious to know if there was some other reason besides not caring enough that I might have missed since this feature has been out for quite some time.
Seems it’s the usual though.
Not that I personally am asking for a whole revamp of the current new starting experience for DKs; I’m fine with just the one quest where you say hullo to Bolvar and torpedo out. I just want the option to pick which LK I wanna say hullo to.
That being said, given the theme of the upcoming expansion and its extensive ties with the scourge and the origin of the Lich King, I don’t particularly think that it would be offensive to the people you mentioned if Blizzard did put more effort into the new starting zone.
This is the thing. You’re bringing up the connections and all that. The point behind this is that Bolvar did not raise these knights to commit atrocities and kill people. These knights are brought back to serve the living because he knows something is wrong. There’s nothing to kill in this situation. It’s literally: “You died during the fourth war. I have brought you back. Make sure more people don’t die.”
I’ve gone through level 1-120 over a handful of times. Atleast a couple of times going through damn near every quest. I would much perfer not to have to go through the leveling process again. This is just, maybe 20-30 minutes of your time to get your “hero” class.
Besides, I don’t care how many times you’ve done it. If you can’t continue to get a warm fuzzy feeling inside by making a giant skeletal drake munch on a enemy… well, you don’t deserve to play an OG Death Knight.
They didn’t need a new starting zone, but they could have put more thought into it than just, now before me go listen to a speech from Mograine and done. Ten minutes of running around and getting your gear and a little more story explanation would have been nice.
