What does everyone think of a fame style system in WoW?
How it would work is basically every day every player can give any other player +1 fame or -1 fame. Each player would have an overall fame level that would be affected by this.
To avoid abuse after faming a character, the person who gave the fame must wait one month before giving + or - again.
I think it would also help reduce some of the toxicity players experience in the game. Thoughts?
Edit 1: Someone brought up “People will just sell fame for 1k each” which is a very valid way for people to make gold. It helps new players make gold and It’s all around for fun.
What if an entire community decided to give their monthly fame in a negative direction to the same player. Wouldn’t that breed toxicity?
Also, what are the consequences of being -fame’d into oblivion?

Will our character sparkle and twinkle and stand a few feet taller than other players?

It would be possible I suppose.
Nothing, really. I mean I dunno. There’s similar systems in other games where people actually strive for large amounts of negative fame or large amounts of positive fame. Just a silly little system.
Are we going to live forever with this? Will we learn how to fly?

No, you’ll just feel warm and fuzzy inside. Or cold and dead.
Total “cheesing” of the system incoming:
-
An entire guild all votes +fame to one of their members. That member glows like the sun.
-
An entire guild coordinates and all vote -fame to a member of a rival guild.
-
Seen in the trade channel: will pay 1000 gold for a +fame vote.
Etc.

But the whole system is just for fun, so it wouldn’t matter? Also, that’s a very valuable way for new or low level players to make gold.

NO! This will get abused! This is a terrible idea and I’d fully quit wow if they added this, I don’t need the stress to be more “social” or becareful who I interact with.

The problem I have with community attitudes on wow, is that there is -1 fame thing going on…
Positive reinforcement sure, negative reinforcement no.
[2. Trade - City] WTB your fame upvote! 200g!

Which would be great, it would help people who don’t care about fame get gold. Or even new players just starting out. Could you imagine being new to the game and having 300g just because someone wanted you to give them something that resets daily for you?

Then why are you playing an MMORPG…?
Nah, any minus system becomes griefy.
In ff14, you can give players commidation. That works at the end of a dungeon.

I am pretty sure it would feel the same as when I would sell my profession cooldowns.
Exactly, just a free little chunk of gold for doing nothing to people who would want it, who wouldn’t like that.
People never get enough of watching someone get voted off the island or collecting likes.
Yeah, it is great but you are making a point for why it is a bad idea. If I am understanding it correctly fame is supposed to reward people that are helpful or “skilled” in the game. If you can just buy fame with gold what is the use of having it in the first place?

It’s supposed to be whatever people make of it. Some people won’t care. Some people will want a high number. Some people will want a large negative number. It’s just a for fun type thing.
