Mage Class Hall quest for the “Archmage” title. I reached the final stage and started the boss fight. My first hit took the boss to 1 hp and I am unable to click on the nightborne soulstone to finish the quest.
I tried leaving the zone and returning to reset the fight. Archmage Khadgar teleported me back to the top of the Oculus. Archmage Vargoth respawned and verbally tells me to speak with him when I’m ready to teleport to the bottom, but (when I speak to him) there isn’t an option to teleport.
Can someone help me please? I’m not sure what’s wrong, but I can’t find a way to get to the bottom and I’m not sure if the boss reset either. Even assuming he did, I’m not positive that I’ll be able to click on the Nightborne Soulstone.

Update: I fixed this by teleporting out, abandoning and reaccepting the quest. Use melee on the boss to only knock him down a little bit… …I think I blasted him past the health he was supposed to “trigger” at the first time.

Just ran into this same issue why are so many old quest broken AF and they remain that way for years,. Had a bug on the Demon Hunter class hall mount quest that was very much like this one.
restart it and auto attack him tell your able to use the soulstone

Get the Foam Sword Rack/Soft Foam Sword if you plan on doing older quests. They will be a lifesaver. I was able to do it easily with that sword (+1 damage equipped). It helps for a lot of those types of quests.
So after many failed attempts and restarts, here are my lessons learned on a lvl 80 Frost Mage in The War Within that may help future mages trying to complete their class hall quests:
(This is a tried and tested method that works every time. It also assumes you may not have access to the Foam Sword Rack Toy.)

When you get to the final bridge leading to Kathra’natir, kill the last legion demon on the bridge but do not yet approach the chamber as it will trigger new dialogue and make Kathra’natir charge over to you.

Unequip your weapon. You only want to hit Kathra’natir with your bare fists.

Unequip any trinkets that proc damage or pets. For example: Candle Confidant (“Your spells have a chance to…”) and Everburning Lantern ("Your harmful ranged spells and abilities have a high chance to…) can both proc off of Counter Spell and/or Spellsteal - which you will want o be using.

Temporarily spec out of Time Anomaly as it can randomly give you Icy Veins, which will summon a Water Elemental who will proceed to break your quest.

Engage Kathra’natir by simply walking into the chamber and right-clicking on him to begin punching him. You will want to Counterspell “Carrion Swarm” each time he casts it as it will kill Vargoth quickly. Don’t worry though, Vargoth will die several times and he just respawns in a few seconds.

You will want to Spellsteal “Vampiric Aura” from Kathra’natir as this will make it impossible to widdle him down to 70% health.

Other than those two spells, cast nothing else - even a Frost Nova will drop him to 1% instantly and break the quest.

Slowly widdle him down to 70% through your bare-handed melee and Varghoth’s spells. This will only take a few minutes. Position yourself so you are within clicking distance of the Nightborne Soulstone.

When Kathra’natir reaches 69% health, Kkadgar will appear and begin speaking, at this point you should be able to interact with the Nightborne Soulstone and complete the quest.
I really wish Blizzard would go back and make an update pass over all the Legion Class Hall Quests. I have had issues with almost every single one of them - usually related to the player doing so much damage that it bypasses a quest trigger and breaks the quest.
But in the meantime, at least we have a helpful community to help us get around all these quests that don’t handle high-level characters very well!
Hope this helps some folks avoid having to do this six times like I had to…ugh!

I would like to add to the above strat being the best method of completion, because you cannot use the Foam Sword in The Oculus Scenario.
