Interrupt spells

How do we know which spells are interruptable during a raid/mythic+ boss encounter?

Sometimes, they are, sometimes they aren’t.

Shield around the cast bar = no go

Greyed out cast bar means it cant be interupted generally. Sometimes the mob can be stunned or cc’d to prevent the cast from going off though.

Wish they would do a better job of telling you what you can do to stop the casts. Some you can stun, some you can knockback and cancel, and some you can interrupt…but the only one that they clearly identify is the interrupt.

Yeah good old trial and error. There are alot of people that test things in m+ and new discoveries happen across the season. I found out completely by accident if you aggro the whelps in Azure Vault you can just stun their greyed out cast bar and prevent the stone elementals from spawning.

Edit: I suppose it does add some learning and mastering the dungeon though instead of the game just telling you.

I don’t quite know what this means as I am using an addon called Quartz for cast bars

Basic UI puts a grayed out shield around the cast bar to let you know you cannot interrupt it.

if it’s actively obscuring information, why use it?

For the life of me I can’t tell what in the hell any of the cast bar designs are supposed to indicate or be categorized as.

I think this is symptomatic of the core problem the game has right now, combat, mechanics, and class mechanics are a big one off mess and in order to level the playing field the game has changed to run out of circle and mechanic whack a mole.

And when it comes to the mechanic whack a mole every encounter is a one off process of learning what ability works where.

Spin attacks, stun-able, not always. Green casts, interruptible, not always. Grey cast, stun-able, not always. Circle, run out of, not always. Channeled casts, interruptible, not always.

There are no design guidelines or hard rules on how combat works and how it’s visually conveyed to the player. It’s all just… whatever.
