Interesting the default ui brings player portrait to lower center screen

Typically its what streamers do. Its funny how blizzard mimics what they do now instead of sticking to the original setup. Not a complaint just an observation

They have two built-in layouts; one has them in the bottom-center, one has them in the top corner.

That are mostly garbage.

Most players doing end game content moved the Unit Frames and other UI objects closer to the center of their FOV years ago. It’s not just streamers.

It makes it easier to see needed info in a hectic Dungeon or Raid.

I’m largely ambivalent about them but if your main concern was where the portraits default to you can switch.

It’s what any good player does.

Yeah and has been for MANY years. Within a few weeks of playing I got an addon because there is no way to play efficiently when your health bars, buffs/debuffs and action bars are all over the place. It was poor design and Im glad its finally been fixed. Seeing some of the pushback to these changes may explain why so many LFR runs are a slog.

Show me a CE raider that uses the base UI health bar position then

is it though? it makes perfect sense to have everything you need to look at frequently in the same place. if your eyes dont have to dart all over the screen (especially if you have large monitors) your reaction time will be faster

Im not in front of their screens. Im sure there is plenty. Maybe get off twitch and realize not everyone follows the same setup

That’s not just for streaming.

A good HUD has as little eye movement as possible. You want your ability and aura tracking, your health tracking, your target/focus health tracking, your (and other) activity tracking (like cast bars), all within easy sight distance of each other.

The original default UI was punitively poorly designed with bits of those things scattered to all four corners of the screen.

Good to see that Blizzard has been listening.

Bad to see that they implemented all of this in the most difficult possible way for users to modify.

I’m too used to it being in the quadrants. Even when I ran Healbot.

The one difference was putting all 4 tank slots at the top midline of my screen separate from the other groups.

It’s not just twitch or streamers dude. Everyone I’ve ever raided with used the same setup. It’s been a common problem in WOW and it’s why the changes were made in the first place because players shouldn’t have to use an addon for something as simple as a UI. It was a poorly design system that was finally fixed.

This wasn’t to copy streamers. It was what most other games and UI addons do. Competitive players as well.

I don’t know how people play with all the information at the top of the screen.

I moved my HP bar and target frame to the middle as soon as I started to use a larger display. It’s just too out of the way in the top right corner on a bigger screen. If you think about it, the old monitors would cover the middle of the modern screen, so it makes sense to move stuff towards the middle.

I do hate ElvUI and all that modern flat design though. It makes sense for a sci-fi game, but ruins immersion in WoW for me. I actually think that Blizzard found a nice compromise between the old UI and modern trends.

You have been able to unlock the player portrait, boss, tot, focus for years by clicking it, unlock and dragging it where ever you want.
The default position had been made irrelevant

In 2009 when I started playing I hated that my character box was in the upper left corner of the screen. I unlocked it, moved it to the lower left, with enemy to the lower right. I’ve been playing that way since. At no point ever did some streamers suggest or did I watch and say that’s a good idea.

The idea that Blizzard decided to make UI changes based on some dude/gal begging for money while playing video games is just… I don’t wanna get banned.

How would you know? :3 Not sure it’s helped you very well.

There are plenty, our raid roster has 2 - and I can confidently say they parse a WHOLE lot better than you do. They even (before the patch) Used the DEFAULT UI.

Have never streamed but having the player unit frame in the center of the action makes the most sense to me. Otherwise, I don’t heal or eat when playing and end up dying due to stupid stuff.
