So I hadn’t been on my Evoker really since the expansion dropped, he’s pretty low down the alt totem pole, but I’m on him right now, and I’m noticing, when I use Soar, I instantly get launched in the air. That’s pretty darn handy. Normally on a mount with skyriding you have to burn a vigor to get off the ground, and that gets annoying in a hurry when hopping from place to place close by each other.
This is a big deal for questing and gathering and stuff. Very nice.

the tradeoff is the 10 sec CD, which makes it inconvenient for hopping from herb to herb, or mob to mob while questing. I still love my evoker, though.

yeah, I get that, altho 10s is quicker than waiting on vigors to refresh.
The free vigor is not as helpful to me as people think. I only really end up using Soar when I’m questing or just heading from place to place without gathering. Heh, or for fun when to just fly around since flying around as a Dracthyr is great. Elsewise though I just use a mount since vigor is plentiful (I can’t remember the last time I ran out), and it makes gathering easier since it doesn’t dismount you.
I mean, I like Soar. I prefer flying as myself… it’s just that I gather a lot and it sucks for gathering.
But yeh, the vigor is a non issue. I would almost rather it worked like a proper mount and had a ground mode as well rather than give us that free point.

I’ve actually really enjoyed it so far for gathering herbs. They seem spaced out far enough that by the time I land and harvest, it’s up again.
And to be honest, I kind of like the auto dismount into a person bit when I land, but that’s just me.
I just use steady flight soar for herbalism on my evoker.
With my bad eyes and need for speed I just end up wooshing by everything before I notice a nano second of “oh hey a herbs there” on my mini map
I do not mind the auto dismount, but nor would I say no to them making it an actual mount state, especially since that would let me use it without a handicap in the skyriding races. It is still better than it used to be, though, I will give it that.
And the problem for herbing for me was not Soar not being up, it is having to cast it each time you gather. With my normal mount I can just land, gather, and shoot back up without having to cast again. And since each gather gives me a vigor point, vigor is irrelevant.
