Fishing is one of the things in wow that have always been a “cozy” feel. It is meant to be relaxing, and meant to allow someone to unwind while experiencing the scenery.
But… there is still some room where I feel that we can improve the experience in minor ways. One such way is how interactive the professions are. The concept of WoW forever to make various aspects of the game feel important for the people who want to play them seems to be solved by creating more complicated recipes, or by increasing the different ingredients. I think these miss the mark.
Honestly, Final Fantasy 14 did a FANTASTIC job with their professions. I really wish that WoW would not be afraid to take inspiration from how they approached professions. Create a “minigame” of sorts with professions so that it isn’t just someone sitting there and clicking “create all” and walking away from their computer to make dinner. Retail kind of had an idea with quality levels for crafting which would increase stats in marginal ways. Creating immersive crafting experience while allowing for players to prove their skill at crafting would create an entire community based around a Blacksmith, Cook, Alchemist, Enchanter, Tailore, etc who are all able to create great items because they are really good at what they do, not just because they dumped money at it.
MMOs have always had professions because there was a percentage of the player base that wanted to feel like they could be a blacksmith, not necessarily “Toban, Barbarian God Killer of the Super Special Knights Extreme XXLL”.
All of this to say… Fishing could be a LOT of fun and a GREAT way to showcase the tech being added to the game to increase the ambiance of the area. Create special fishing locations only found through fishing experience, fishing quests, fishing insight with the Anglers.
