Intense 10.2 FPS drops

As soon as I walked through the Emerald Dream portal to enter the new zone, massive fps drops started to occur. The game never completely froze or crashed, but FPS would drop to 1 at worst, and seriously endanger me in whatever I was doing.

Worse, the FPS losses followed me out of the zone, and severely increased zone loading screen times as well. Once I exited the game I checked my Task Manager Processes and found wow.exe to still be chugging along and severely slowing down my computer. Ended process and later came back to the boot up the game. Same experience both with the FPS drops and the continuous running of the Process. Damn thing was running for nearly ten minutes before I hit End Process to stop it.

Is this similar to the issue we had with the Primalist Storms or whatever? The severe lag/fps issues and memory leakage? It took them over a week to fix last time, but I hadn’t had any issue since.

Same issue. Comment on Reddit said FSR is currently broken so try setting render scale to 100%. Haven’t tried it myself yet.

FPS is playable in Emerald Dream for me , but with a 12700k and 3080Ti , sitting in the 80s seemed a bit ridiculous.

I tried Treelover’s suggestion and set my render scale back to 100% and Bicubic instead of FSR and I did seem to gain a solid 15 FPS or so in that zone.

I set my Render Scale to 90% and Bicubic, and it worked like a charm so far.

Seems to work. Keep in mind, I have an old PC on Windows 7 with Geforce 760, so I overcompensated just in case.

Edit: Looks like a memory leak. The changes I made above worked for about half an hour before I started noticing the frame drops and stuttering again. The longer I play, the worse it gets. Other, larger threads deal with this, I’ll leave this be and carry on.

I switched to DX11 and now my GPU usage is around 95% and my FPS doesn’t cut between 120 to 60 when switching the camera. Frametime is better too.

I can also attest that Rendering Scale seems to be broken right now. I usually sit at 66% upscaling to 4k with FSR and it worked perfectly. Sitting at the main town in the Emerald Dream I get like 80 fps with that setup, disabling rendering scale by setting to 100% resolution instantly changes the fps up to 100+. So something is definitely borked with rendering scale options. (Even using Bicubic at 90% caused the same issue, only solved by totally turning off rendering scale.) Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

My solution to this issue was to set DirectX to 11 Legacy. It completely eliminated this issue for me.

this was it for me… now at 100% (4k)
for some reason it was scalled to 8k (and down to 10 fps)

Thanks for the tip

RTX3090, AMD 5900

I was having the same issues and tried everything people were saying on this post and reddit posts and nothing was working. I then found someone who said that sometimes the windows updates changes your power plan. and sure enough my was set to a balanced plan instead of high performance and now i am back to 200+ fps
