Who will have the paper launch? AMD or Intel?
Who will have the better leaked geekbench score that will have zero translation to gaming?
And most important, who will have the larger mark up on ebay once scalpers buy up all the inventory?
- Intel, probably.
- AMD, probably.
- Intel, probably.
7.5 hours until the event goes live. Already feeling the goosebumps.
Typically when I watch a marketing power point presentation I get paid for my time and get a “catered” lunch of a bland sandwich or pizza.
I’m not excited about either CPU release unless independent testing shows a Sandy bridge style jump in real world performance (I doubt it will). I’m more excited on the GPU side of things.
I’m excited, but I’d be lying if I said COVID-19 cabin fever wasn’t a huge component of that.
So far Zen hasn’t had near the launch availability issues Intel has I vaguely remember them tending to be easily available just a few weeks after the launch event. Although CPUs don’t have the demand GPUs have and the yield per wafer is much higher. Even if they are not all that available people are less likely to attempt to sell an organ to get one like we are currently seeing with Nvidia.
This stream is INTENSE
19% ipc over zen2
631 cbr20 score (20% faster than my 5ghz 8700k)
someone call 911 amd just committed a murder!
I’ll definitely upgrade to 5900X. Currently 3900X.
Still couldn’t get RTX 3080. I would think 5900X will still bottleneck RTX 3080.
5600x for $299…looks interesting but also overpriced.
is it though?
Presuming it performs on par or better than a 10600k (~$270), and includes a competent cooler (~$30), it’s competitive.
I think AMD is just finally starting to feel confident enough in their product they can take the “performance” angle to justify their prices instead of the “value” angle to justify their performance.
Let’s hope it performs at least on par but still with rocket coming in March of 21 that’s the real competition for AMD. I would not pay a premium just to have the processor for five months and then watch a “competitive” price drop.
Lots of folks living in the now, though. People are buying up 3080s at exorbitant prices despite there being nearly 100% confirmation that within a few months better iterations will be available.
I know and we do need those early adopters to beta test things for the rest of us.
yeah, i gave up on the GPU. Ordered some new displays (24" 1440p IPS Lenovo L24Q-30) to synchronize my work/home office monitors to the same size/resolution, and am going to be getting a new bed instead of a $800 GPU.
I wanted to go from my 3600x to a 5800x but those prices. I may just get a new gpu instead
I probably won’t upgrade. Needs to have more than 20% better to actually feel something.
I don’t think the prices are bad, myself, but just like it was not worthwhile to go from an 8700k to a 10700k for $400 + $200 (CPU/MB), I don’t think it’s worthwhile for a 3600 user to jump.
Maybe 1st gen users. I could consider it on my 1600 system, but it’s such a low priority system that it’s not worth the ROI.
looks like ill have a free 3700x just chilling next to my 2600k :3
Microcenter better not have stock issues with this, guess ill also take this opportunity to change out my case and get proper fans this time.
I’m not going to bother upgrading until the final CPU is released that will be compatible with my X570 board. I need to replace my main PC as well but I’ll wait and see what Intel offers since I’m in no hurry.
Just ordered a gigabyte b550 board with wifi 6. Waiting for Ryzen 5 5600x to launch. Looking forward to the gaming performance gains over my i7 6700k.
