Instead of a Modern UI for WoW, they copied FFXIV. Why?

They didn’t just improve the resolution and retexture the entire user interface, they literally copied FFXIV. The action bars are no longer the way they used to be in World of Warcraft, they are literally a copy and paste of final fantasy now. Three action bars right on top of each other, The health and target bars just above those. Tiny little chat box on the bottom left. Why didn’t they just retexture the user interface we had and really enjoyed?

They completely ruined it. The user interface now looks nothing like it did previously

How many more of these topics do we need to endure…

Maybe 14 had a good idea about what a neat action bar looks like?

Idk kinda vibes with me.

WoW has always been at its best when stealing ideas from others.

If you don’t enjoy discussing World of Warcraft, why would you even be here?

Why? … because the old interface was dated and sucked. The new one is much better.

Also it took less than 5 minutes to move and resize the bars and the chat window so they are roughly in the same positions as pre-patch.

Maybe put in a little effort with the new UI before writing it off?

so you mean they copied modern MMO UI design? because FFXIV’s ui is actually half decent out the box? (barring my many minor complaints about things like certain ui elements being unavailable at dumb times)
the only valid complaints i’ve seen about the ui changes are that

  1. it’s harder to read in some areas, due to changes like font size and greyscale of the microbar, etc
  2. the old art is gone for those who enjoyed it, replaced with new art that may not capture the same enjoyment
  3. certain elements that should be movable and scalable within edit mode just aren’t, and require an addon or using console commands that don’t stick to change

the actual default layout of the ui is intelligent, and customizability is good, acting like making their default layout what it should have been for years now is just copying another game is silly.

This is nothing like FFXIV’s UI, it’s a half-baked lazy attempt missing 90% of the customization options FFXIV gave you

Funny thing happened while I was parked on the toilet. While enveloped in a particularly vile cloud of poop gas I thought of the new UI. I was thinking I’d hate to be downwind of me right now and definitely not downwind of the new UI and Talent Trees. Yeah, they stink.

Interestingly enough, I can get used to the new UI and Talent trees, but not that nasty, vile smelling poop gas.

Every MMORPG looks like a similar UI. Even Old Republic’s can be changed to look almost the same, just in blue.

People really need to learn the difference between “copy paste exactly” and “use similar to what works in other games.”

Wonder what it looks like. I have had UI add-ons since 2012

I tried ffxiv and have no idea how you could think the UI is even remotely close.

How do you copy somebody that copied you?

I’m more concerned why they call it “Classic” when it’s nothing like Classic UI. Action Bar 1 - 4 were well placed side by side on the screen and not stacked on top of each other.

Well laid out with regards to the issues. I’d quibble and put the ‘new artwork’ is in a weird place, in that you can put down the new menu bar, but it doesn’t resize, giving you the worst of both worlds there.

The plain monochrome look of the menu bar is an addition issue that sort of expounds the microscopic size of it.

I’m on the fence on the default layout being intelligent. Certainly it was a choice, not one I’m crazy about. The issue being it’s a bit jarring to login, see your default layout with three stacks of bars in the middle of the screen going up well, half way up the screen, not leaving much room to see the game on if you’re on a small screen.

On a larger screen, it’s not as jarring, it’s a case of personal taste.

Lack of consistency from one element to another (in what gets changed, how it gets changed, etc.) is also another element that adds to the frustration.

why would they take ideas from the direct threat to their game? beats me. i also wonder why they’re focusing on the story so much these days too and why healers are doing damage and more classes are getting battle res. it really is a mystery…
