Instantly Receive Alt Mail

Please make it so characters on the same account recieve mail instantly. I have multiple accounts, so just trade myself to bypass this, but this would be nice for those who don’t.

Meh. It hasn’t bothered me at all, but I also don’t care either way

This is one of those simple QoL changes that would by no means “ruin the spirit of Vanilla” but hasn’t been done because of #nochanges . No reason to not implement this in Classic.

Yeah. With all the changes they already did, none of the other changes really would matter now. Though, I’d gladly take 100% no changes if they did it that way.

It may just not have been done, for the same reason there are no Death Knights; It wasn’t something that was implemented during Vanilla.

I suppose I’m not sure what you mean by #nochanges, but in my opinion, it is just a hashtag that represents some forum posters’ opinions, which likely has not had much impact on the decisions made by the development team.

The developers wouldn’t care about the opinions of random people, but I think when such a large volume of people are screaming no changes all at once, they certainly listen and it has an effect on their development. Personally, I’ll still defend the no changes position, having seen classic play out. Vanilla was not a perfect game, we all knew that, but nobody was asking for a perfect game, we were asking for as good of an emulation of vanilla as we could get in 2020 and I think we more or less got that. If they’d started tweaking random things, whether QoL or actually messing with the balance, who knows what we would have gotten.

The fact this is Classic is reason enough not to implement it. Do you not understand the point of Classic? It’s not to create a new MMO.

When did alt instant mail happen?
TBC or LK? Can’t remember.

Give me a break, instant mail from alts doesn’t constitute “a new MMO”. It’s a very minor tweak to Classic that does not at all change the fundamental gameplay loop and just makes life a bit easier for players.

Considering they implemented things like autoloot… cherry picking QOL changes at its finest.

You missed the point, so I’ll make it simple for you: the point of Classic is give us WoW as it was. As it was means mail between alts was not instant.

Making changes to it defeats the purpose of Classic as project.

I opposed this, though.

Was there no autoloot in Vanilla? What does autoloot mean? Does that mean in actual Vanilla, you had to click each item?

I think I only played Vanilla during beta for an hour or so, and then maybe some time in late Vanilla to about level 28. I was more interested in Starcraft, Counter-Strike, and D2 LoD back then.

You still have to loot each corpse, unlike retail, though I can’t remember when that change was made.

It required you to hold shift when looting, iirc. There was no option to make right clicking a mob loot everything as a default.

Oh… I don’t think I’ve ever used that, so I hadn’t noticed that it was any different. I’ve always just shift-clicked to autoloot.

The wait for mail adds a tiny bit of realism and immersion. I mean, it’s not supposed to be email. But yeah, making it instant would certainly be convenient.

The problem is, the minute Blizzard gives in to that change, the forum will be flooded with, “But but but… you made that change, what about THIS change that I want???” And they would never shut up, and never let Blizzard live it down. I’d rather just live with the hour wait than open up that can of worms.

But it DOES alter the gameplay. Long term stuff might not be affected much, like collecting arcanite across 3 toons, but instant mail discourages an economy, instead often rewarding players who use 4-6 toons to have their own self contained system. Spending hours waiting for the mail is a way to discourage such behavior.

Calling it a “New MMO” is overblowing the issue, but saying there’s no impact when there absolutely is one is being just as disingenuous.

Indeed, if there was no impact, there would be no reason to have this thread at all.

No thanks. The mail delivery system doesn’t know what an “alt” is, and it should stay that way.

  • Has multiple accounts
  • Wants instant mail
  • Wants the instance limit to be changed

But you are just thinking of all of the players without multiple accounts out of the goodness of your heart.

Would be nice, it’s kind of annoying when you’re trying to pass mats or bags or whatever to an alt. Not game breaking but would be nice.

This is something that was done on pServers, not because they didn’t know how to make it take a hour but because it just made sense.
