Instance Loot Dungeons & Raids (NOTHING IS LOOT ABLE!)

THIS AFFECTS ALL CURRENT INSTANCED CONTENT AS WELL AS OLD INSTANCED CONTENT!

What this affects:

Dungeons (5 man content)
Looking for Raid / Normal / Heroic raid groups (10-30 man content)
Mythic raids (20 man content)

Personal Loot: (breakdown)

Trash loot and boss loot is assigned to 1/X players via personal loot in a computer randomly generated style in most situations.

THE PROBLEM

However, if you are the ONLY person in the instance (solo) even though the instance trash mob or boss mob “has a 100% to drop loot” you are not eligible to loot the items that were assigned drop. Due to the personal loot system assigning loot to players that are not there. Lowering loot chances to 1/5, 1/10, or 1/20 loot chances respectively.

This can be replicated and proven.

EX1: CONTROL GROUP: Take 20 player characters into the raid: Antorus, The Burning Throne on “Mythic” difficulty.

OBJECTIVE: Kill all the trash on the entrance ramps. (11 enemies)
RESULT: Nearly Every mob will drop at least 1 piece of loot for someone in the group. (11+ total loot able corpses)

EX2: EXPERIMENT GROUP: Take 1 current Mythic raid geared (475+ ilvl) player into the raid: Antorus, The Burning Throne on “Mythic” difficulty).

OBJECTIVE: Kill all the trash on the entrance ramps. (11 enemies)
RESULT: There is a 1/3 chance you will have zero loot able corpses. Most of the kills you will only have 1 loot able corpse and ocassionally you will receive 2 loot able corpses. (Note these mobs have 100% chance to drop loot with a full raid and yet there are many times when you receive ZERO LOOT ABLE CORPSES from all 11 mobs!)

This can be replicated in all current expansion BFA dungeons & raids. If you solo the instance… corpses that should be loot able are not loot able. Meanwhile if you are in a full group nearly every corpse is loot able.

When soloing group content (AKA YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON) we are receiving ZERO LOOT from 20% of the trash mobs in dungeons and up to 95% of the time in a mythic raid. This is even noted when you solo a mythic+. 2-3+ pieces are normally guaranteed to drop. Yet you only receive 1 or 0 pieces of loot even if you are the only eligible person for loot.

All this panic over the fact that BfA and Legion are not set to Legacy Loot rules…

That being, set to Personal Loot, fewer bodies running does not guarantee better odds of a piece of gear dropping for your class.

When you are not receiving 80-95% of loot that you rightfully earned, per the encounter.
It’s kind of a big deal.
Personal Loot, Legacy Loot, or otherwise…

Extreme Example: (tested)

The current loot system does not factor in smaller group sizes then the minimum size. If your group has less people then the suggested group size. Even though the difficulty of the instance remains static, the difficulty of the encounters are increased by having fewer people in the group.

When having fewer people there is now a chance that when you kill the trash mobs and/or bosses… no one within the instance can even loot the corpse because it is awarded to a player that doesn’t exist. Even when the mob is designed to have 100% drop rates to loot multiple items. There is a chance that 1 or more items may be assigned to a group member that doesn’t exist. (THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!).

What the loot system is doing is punishing people even further. Not only by increasing the difficulty from the intended design but also lowering the rewards per difficulty, beyond that of which the instance was intended.

Hypothetical Example: (not yet tested)

  • Say you kill a current expansion mythic boss that has a 100% chance to drop 2 mounts when you kill it.
  • With 19 people the difficulty increases, yet there is a chance only 1 mount drops.
  • With 18 people the difficulty increases even more, yet there is a chance 0 mounts drop.
  • The boss is intended to drop 2 mounts every kill. But the personal loot system is awarding loot to a raider that doesn’t exist.

Previously…what you’re describing is EXACTLY as intended for previous expansions. If you run Siege of Orgrimmar or Hellfire Citadel, three and two expansions behind Azeroth, Legacy loot is enabled and you’ll receive the full cache from the boss. Legion and BfA on the other hand will only reward you what you’d loot as in a 10-man raid, whether or not you actually are a body among nine other people.

Well, now incoming problem solved for Legion.

Counter Point, I am trying to farm Orb of the Fel Temptress in Cathedral of Eternal Night, it only drops off specific mobs and if i don’t count my kills, i could end up not able to loot any of these specific mobs, greatly diminishing the already frustratingly low drop rate of the item.

Counter point 2: tier sets from Nighthold now drop as specific specs, which makes the already daunting task of trying to farm out pallys or other 3 spec classes even harder than it already was with the token system. especially when compared to the very lovely version we saw in SOO with the essences off of garrosh to help mitigate loot rng failures.

(yes i realise this thread is necro’d but the point stands and hopefully this either helps someone or a blue passes this on to someone)
