I was running De Other Side +6 last night on my Druid tank and I got this from the final chest. It’s ilvl 197 but upgradeable with Valor. I haven’t done anything with it yet.
I’ve been reading up on it, and… I’m confused. It has a 3 minute cooldown and apparently it has several different potential effects when used, depending on the state of both me and my group when I hit it.
It’s not an upgrade for my Druid right now but with some valor spent on it, it will be from an ilvl standpoint but I’m still fuzzy about whether or not I should. Some things I’ve read make it sound fantastic and others make it sound useless.
Has anyone had any experience on this from a tanking perspective? Again, I haven’t equipped it.
I can’t speak from a tank perspective, but for dps it’s not as scary as people make it out to be. Conditions are fairly straightforward. If you start it at beginning of a fight for dps/lust/cds it’ll always be the main stat boost.
Its also not nearly as good as 5 minutes patchwerk sims make it look like though as in the middle of a raid encounter its almost guaranteed to either be a mana, heal or straight damage proc if the boss is in execute range (and that proc does like 20k damage at ilvl 220, its trash), so its basically a 1 use trinket.
It’s usually pretty clever as far as what stat is gives you, so presumably you can count on vers as a tank. They have weakauras that track the effect and show the cd. I’d recommend picking that up.
It may also be the way I use it.
I use my summon celestial most of the time as a kind of proactive defensive cooldown and initial pull tool. I.E. Send Angry Dave charging into the big pack, Dave takes the big initial hits, and then I pick them up more safely. So on initial pulls, like the poster said above, it just says “Yeah, here’s 700 Versatility, enjoy”
Oh yeah on initial pulls you’re guaranteed a stat buff, no argument there. My point was on fights that last over 3 mins, its second use is almost always wasted.
Sims don’t take that into account though and assume you’ll somehow always fish for the best proc, which is nearly impossible. Hence why its grossly overvalued.
Very true. I’m not much of a sim person because I do a lot of tanking and trying to sim as a tank is lol. Sure, you can see what gear does the most damage in an ideal situation but that’s like 2/5ths of your role.
Yeah, the jury is definitely out on that thing being a sim trap or not. You’d think in any kind of “interesting” pull that it won’t proc something that will help on the meter after the first activation.
I used to use it with the WA. In theory it should be epic especially for classes that have CDs that align with it.
Lately especially in raid just been using Dreadfire Vessel instead. Enjoying the amount of uses and ease of use it has (plus also nice in M+ to get targets in Kill shot range or to help equalise HP in certain weeks)
I run it as Guardian and I just hit it along with my Incarn and Berserking (Troll racial) as all three are 3 minute cooldowns. Usually gives me a nice chunk of either vers or haste. I don’t know that it’s optimal, but it certainly feels good.
I was saving it to the end of a fight for the execute, but switched to using it at the start of the fight as it gives a significant boost to haste (my highest secondary stat, not primary).
