I’m in my car and can’t check. What’s the inner Azerite trait that shields you for 3.4k when you consume soul fragment? Does this work for vengeance lesser soul fragments? If I have the shield up and get another does it refresh and stack?
It refreshes but if you have it on multiple pieces it stacks.
I finally got a piece with this trait…it’s called soulmonger and it either sucks or is bugged because it give you a shield for 3500 reguardless if you absorb one or 5 soul fragments.
lol! sounds like a garbage trait homie…
3.5k is like… being tickled by a gust of wind.
worst trait ever.
Well if it’s per soul fragment then that’s a really nice amount of absorb. If it’s per soul fragment burst then that’s kinda meh, but still potentially a lot of overall absorb, given how fast vengeance goes through soul fragments.
1 of them is something around 880hps. It’s not awful. It’s about 30% better than Resounding Protection.
Depends on how often you absorb the souls. Assuming 415 itemlevel and 18% haste (1224 rating, a reasonable value at that ilevel), your normal rotation will pop Spirit Bomb every 7.63 seconds (6 GCDs @ 1.27s each). That means you’ll get 7.87 shields per minute. The 415 version of Soulmonger is an absorb for 3963. Assuming they are 100% consumed by incoming damage (which, to be fair, isn’t necessarily guaranteed, given they only last for 3 seconds, and taunt swaps are a thing), that’s, at most, 31175.6 absorb per minute.
By comparison, Resounding at 415 is 2 shields per minute, 16986 per shield (and a much higher chance of them being 100% effective, even with taunt swaps), for a total of 33972 per minute. So at that rate, Soulmonger is, at best, about 92% as effective as Resounding Protection, which, it should be pointed out, is already roughly half as effective as Impassive Visage, assuming no overhealing (which is highly likely, since it triggers on damage taken).
In order to be 30% more effective, you’d have to get at least 11.14 procs per minute, which would require using Spirit Bomb every 5.38 seconds. This is only feasible if you’re using it after every Fracture, or if you have at least 67.2% haste (or 28.6% and Bloodlust, but that’s still 1944 haste rating, infeasible outside of something like Galecallers).
However, that’s with a Fracture/Bomb build. With a Feed the Demon build, the rotation largely boils down to Shear spam ad nauseum, with souls auto-consumed as they are generated by being capped on them. With this setup, you effectively get a shield on every GCD. Even assuming only 50% of the shields are consumed, that’s up to 93526.8 absorb per minute, more than half again as powerful as Impassive and more than three times as powerful as Resounding.
Moral of the story is, it’s an ok trait for the standard Fracture/Bomb build. Nothing jaw-dropping, but still decent (and rather substantially better than some of the other options, like Burning Soul, Longstrider, Self-Reliance, and Azerite Fortification, and in a raid environment, Vampiric Speed and Bulwark of the Masses). For the more defensive FtD build, it’s truly amazeballs, and you should stack 3 of them ASAP. With 3 stacks, you could pretty easily absorb your entire maximum HP per minute, especially on a fast-swinging boss if you’re not taking many tanking breaks. Even at the 50% absorption rate I used above, 3 stacked with the Shear build is just barely shy of 5k HPS, which is rather hilarious when you consider that the top rank for VDH self-healing across all of the bosses in mythic BoD averages around 20k and the 75th percentile for VDHs in BoD, across all bosses, it only 14.4k.
