I remember being unhappy with the fact that nights weren’t really that dark, but now it seems to me like they are a bit darker than they were in the past. Idk if they changed something after Legion or I’m just spending more time in zones where the difference between day and night would be more noticeable (Stormwind for example, compared to Orgrimmar)
You can buy them for gold at the Dark Moon Fair. The vendor is in the forest near where the wolf boss spawns.
That’s true for the Inky Black Potions, but the sunwarmed sand is only from Otela in Caverns of Time for TImewalking badges.
Never knew that existed in a single use variety. I thought they were referring to the potions.
I think they dumped it back in the alpha. I know that was the idea behind this alpha picture and the torch.
the only downside to inky black potions, is that it cancels out weather effects…
if it maintained snow/rain at night while using the potion, I think it would be a huge improvement.
Sunwarmed Sand can only be bought in CoT for Timewalking badges.
Edit: nevermind! I see that conversation was already had. My bad. lol
i love using it in spires
Download and tried in out in Bastion. Big improvement. UI not great. Ugh, turns off in combat.
Inky Black better for herb farming.
It will still have uses, thanks
Inky Black is cool sometimes but I don’t like it in a lot of zones because while it does make for properly dark nights, it also changes the zone’s horizon, fog, etc colors to a generic black which strips a lot of zones of their personality.
I wish there were a variation that instead of applying the same static environment settings everywhere took the zone’s night colors and darkened them by 70-80% so they all look how they’re supposed to, just darker.
Doesn’t your monitor or tv have a contrast option?
Always carrying a stack of these potions around! Makes some zones look completely different. Bastion / The Maw / ZM all look incredible with the darkness effect!
It shouldn’t turn off in combat. I have the little toggle towards the bottom of my screen and I can just use my mouse wheel to go brighter/darker. I’m not on right now so I can’t see the options but I have mine on all the time.
Inky Black is a generic filter and generic skybox. It’s not the same as night was back in the day, although it’s a neat gimmick for when you really want that nighttime vibe.
Anyway, the way it acts as a filter instead of deliberate artistic design is probably the reason it will never be a graphical option in settings and remains a consumable instead.
I think you’re better off advocating for turning it into a toy with no CD instead of a time-limited consumable.
I stopped using it for this reason. If you’ve got the potion on and you’re standing around in Stormwind on Moon Guard and it starts raining, you won’t know it but you’re sure to get a bunch of “Why are you standing in the raaaaaaain~” comments.
RP problems!
I have like 1000 of them hanging around my characters, it makes the game look so much better in almost all settings, even in the Sepulcher raid it looks damn good compared to how it is normally.
I love using the Inky Black Potion, it’s so nice to have for SOA or literally any obnoxious bright dungeon/zone. It’d be nice if it worked for like an hour or so and persists through death.
I like the Inky Black Potion but I can understand why Blizzard didn’t make it baseline. Dark / low-contrast scenes have a tendency to look pitch black on bad displays and WoW has to run on a potato PC.
I wish there was an option for darker nights in the settings menu somewhere though.
