Initializing stuck at 87.30 (Roughly)

Trying to update WoW Retail. Initializer makes it all the way to 87.30 (roughly) and then restarts. I have tried the following:

  1. Restarting both my computer and Battlenet
  2. Updating my drivers
  3. Giving the Battlenet app admin
  4. Deleting and reinstalling Battlenet
  5. Scanning for errors (Apparently that ALSO loops and restarts at 55 - 60% completion).
  6. Closing other programs and launching Battlenet on its own.
  7. A few other suggestions from posts with minor alterations that didn’t fix it.

Any other ideas? Anyone else having this issue?

Sometimes clicking pause and unpause on the download ui when it stops works for me and sometimes when i do an options scan and repair it reboots the download.
I would have saved uninstalling battlenet as a very last resort.

Don’t shoot the messenger , this does not work 100%, but you might try it see what happens, for lack of something better to do.

Anther thing you can try , is to log in from the battlenet icon in the retail folder and not your desktop. I only experienced it on mac, but somehow the desktop icon was corrupt.

Thanks, I’ll take all the help I can get. This is frustrating.

Unfortunately, pausing isn’t working. As a matter of fact, sometimes when I unpause, it doesn’t even resume trying the download.

As mentioned, scan and repair is looping as well. I’ll try to solve that problem, as maybe fixing that will fix the other. Who knows?

If you have a addon program… Remove it.

The drive you are installing wow on…
SSD with at least 20% empty and formated NTFS. 150GB … Or 180GB minimum.

Also check your C: drive with windows controlled page file of the same as above.
or more… Controlled by windows.
I even put a page file on the drive I have wow installed on… It was not using the drive.

Pause and restart has worked for me.

I also recommend to try the beta of battle.net as it should fix permissions.

You listen to these tech guys, they know what they are talking about , I only have minor experience and shouldn’t be giving advice.
I discovered the Bnet desktop icon thing by mistake, so it may not work for everything , but I mentioned it cause I wanted you to know somebody cared.

Elocin seems to come in every few days, they know a lot .

I had exact same issue and saw you post before spending hours finding what fixed it
the service Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI) service is the issue.
You have to clear it and reset it and after many hours and reboots as soon as i did that it worked. Came back to this post to let you know in case you are still stuck as this issue was a nightmare to resolve

Generally shutting down vs rebooting is better because it will stop the service mentioned above. I believe it persists/hibernates through reboots.

Ok, I have now also

  1. Reinstalled both Battlenet and WoW
  2. Tried pause/unpause
  3. Tried runadmin with everything
  4. Tried the WMI trick, but am getting ‘access denied’ with my attempts. Anyone know the reason?
  5. Tried a few other YouTube suggestions.

Now its just worse, initializing used to get to 87.30 then reset, now it just flashes ‘waiting on another download’ for a split second and resets.

Oh, and now when I do scan and repair, it does actually complete the scan, but won’t repair.

Edit: Strangely Diablo updates and plays just fine.

UPDATE
After some false starts, the WMI trick finally worked for me.

  1. Open your Command prompt (Run as Admin)
  2. Type: net stop winmgmt
  3. Type: Y
  4. Type: /resetrepository
  5. Type: net start winmgmt
  6. Restart your computer.
