Initializing… please wait

It’s now 4:30pm in the afternoon and I’m STILL stuck in this loop of either just being stuck on “Initializing… please wait.” or it doing the download of the 468MB file, but upon reaching the end, it just cycles back to “Initializing… please wait.”

I’ve repeatedly tried restarting the PC, the launcher, deleting the cache folders and the entire battle.net folder so it refreshes the download data, I’ve reinstalled the launcher… scan and repairs of the game… closing everything down and using the EXE in the actual retail wow folder to launch the game (which just results in it launching and giving me the “Incompatible realm” lists).

Now, my net connection isn’t great… it’s good enough to play the game, do dungeons and raids, but for downloading… not great… these 400 odd MB files usually take me a good 15-20 mins to download…

Sooo… for me to actually delete and reinstall the game itself, entirely is not really an option… that will be a good couple of days downloading and installing due to my connection speeds…

I have done all trouble shooting suggestions provided… again, with the exception of just entirely deleting and reinstalling the game…

So the issue is likely one of these things:

  • Bad connection to update server — try a VPN
  • Not enough space on drive for update — you’ll need to check that
  • Incompatible storage type (external drive format vs internal) — only NTFS is supported
  • Security software using outdated definitions — consult security software company
  • Corrupted directory where game is installed — would need to reinstall

Omg, I meant to post an update and totally forgot. I think my net connection had been causing some drama, as I took my PC over to a friends place and hooked it up to his internet and was able to finally get everything working and have been able to log in and play since!

Thank you so much for the reply and suggestions!!!
