And they were the two worst seasonal affixes and it’s not close.
Blizzard, don’t force change dungeon philosophy with things like AoE caps just because you don’t want players to pull big. Players want to. It’s funner when you can move quickly through a dungeon. The AoE cap itself probably won’t end up being too huge of a deal but don’t fool yourself into thinking forcing slower movement through dungeons will be well received. Beguiling and Infested sucked even though they made pulls more “thoughtful.”
Two of the affixes forced slower movement and were poorly received, two of them enabled moving quickly and pulling big and have been considered a huge success.
I want every seasonal affix to be like Awakened and change how you approach dungeons as a whole, and not just on the level of individual pulls.
Beguiling, Infest and Reaping, whether they’re good or bad, all they did is essentially change one in every few pulls (or in Reapings case, effectively add another pull).
You’d go from a 9 to a 10 and the only thing different was “oh yeah, this mechanic also happens”. But then you go from a 9 to a 10 with Awakened and the experience is completely different.
It’s not so different (especially in more linear dungeons) that nothing you know about the dungeons applies anymore, Freehold is still Freehold. But instead of doing the traditional route of Kragg>Captains>Harlan>Arena, suddenly you’re inclined to do the arena third, so you don’t get additional mini-bosses on Harlan.
Or maybe you do want to take that risk, and shave off the minutes and seconds it’d take you to clear a pillar and kill the mini-boss inside it. Maybe you can risk doing one or even two mini-bosses with the last boss if you’re feeling spicy.
Seasonal affixes in the future should interact with the run in such a way that goes beyond “this pull is marginally more annoying”.
