Infernals in Cenarion Hold

So lately on my server players have been summoning infernals in Cenarion Hold. When they are summoned the guards immediately attack the infernals target, not the infernal, or the player who summoned it. This seems to be “zone disruption” similar to what was happening in gadgetzan and stuff earlier in classic, since players are cheesing the guards to attack someone who is not engaging in combat within Cenarion Hold. Is this true to vanilla wow or a bug?

PVP server means there is a PVP solution. As long as the attacking person isn’t safespotting, Blizzard won’t take action.

I think you misunderstand what is happening.

Warlock, let’s say Me for simplicity, sees someone they don’t like in Cenarion Hold. I cast Infernal on them, causing summon damage etc. Instead of attacking me for taking that hostile action, the guards run over and floor the poor sap who was doing literally nothing, killing them, giving me an Honorable kill, and causes them a repair bill.

The guards at no point will attack me for doing so. I’m free to drop infernals on people, getting them killed at no risk to myself. I can stand right next to the guard and do it. They don’t care.

This is clearly not fair behavior. If it was accurate to Vanilla, I don’t remember. Even if it was, it should be fixed anyway because it’s not even remotely fair gameplay.

Forcing the guards to attack someone isn’t pvp. If rogues were killing players and getting away from the guards I wouldnt be posting here, that’s pvp. This seems to be an unintended mechanic of the guards, as they should be attacking the infernal or the player who summoned it, not it’s target.

Are you sure the person being attacked isn’t hitting the infernal at all? Even a single auto attack is enough to trigger the guards on the person. Also, is the warlock standing on top of anything? That can bug out the guards.

In WoD on Timeless Isle I would stand on top of the fence around Celestial Court and attack Alliance on my Horde DK. As long as I didn’t jump down, the guards wouldn’t attack me. I got lots of angry rage whispers doing that. If reports were filed against me, no action was ever taken. This game is full of unintended mechanics, many of which are never fixed.

100% sure because I’ve tested it myself. The equivalent would be like a mage running in to arcane explosion on people and the guards going “LOL LETS GET IN ON THAT!” and then murdering the victims instead of the mage.

Nope. Happened to my raid last night. When we went to go roll out a warlock standing out in the open dropped an infernal on us, and guards came in killed us all. I was mounted so I didn’t autoattack.

True to vanilla or not, this is essentially safe-spotting, which is an exploit.

Then I suggest reporting the players doing this. If it’s not intended, perhaps Blizzard will take action. I’m sure they would on a PVE server, but I’m not so sure on PVP.

I reported the player, and made a bug report. Just figure I’d post here about it too so other people know about this issue.

As far as the pvp server thing goes, I think they might do something since there really is no recourse. If I drop an infernal in a horde raid the guards kill them and leave me alone. The only “recourse” is kill me and get killed by the guards again lol.

Based on the Timeless Isle shenanigans that I and others took part in on Emerald Dream, a then PVP server, I have my doubts. Alliance still could and did kill me, and it was possible to run away from the guards. In other words, a PVP solution existed. I never heard of anyone getting suspended for that.

This sounds like it definitely falls into a gray area of unintended game mechanics. It’s certainly disruptive, but I don’t think it’s exactly like safe spotting though, because the guards COULD, and would, attack you, if you cast another spell at the target.

It’s certainly a more entertaining way to mess with raid buffs than hiding priests in the back of kargath inn and dispelling.

Yes you could run away from the guards, that’s fine. Whats happening here is I can force the guards to attack another player, who isn’t doing anything at all. Iirc that was not a thing you could do in timeless isle

Point of order: Shadow Priests with Mind Control say hello.

But if a priest MC’s someone I’m CH wouldn’t the guards also attack the priest? The issue is the guards don’t attack the lock who summons the infernal

It’s practically impossible to run away from CH guards, I’ve seen them chase people all the way to the gates of AQ and they will port you to them if you go somewhere they can’t follow.

I’ve seen guards wipe out massive groups of players from people doing this on my realm. Don’t need to attack the infernals or even have a damage aura like ret or thorns. If it hits you in the crash zone when it’s summoned your dead.

I’ve done this to multiple groups in Cenarion hold now.
It has never been done to me.

About HALF of the people in those groups got obliterated by the guards. There’s no chance for any kind of PvP solution. They’re just dead.

I assume it has something to do with the fact that the mob is initially hostile for a split second, then gets insta-enslaved.

While hilarious for me, this is absolutely not something that should be left in the game. It would have been fixed in vanilla, and it should be fixed in classic.

That’s exactly what I did in Timeless Isle. I’d throw up a dot or deathcoil and the guards would attack them.

You are missing the entire “attacking the infernal’s target” part of it. There IS no PVP solution, as the guards instagib the infernal’s target. And no, the person who is being attacked by the infernal does not even have to move a muscle to draw the aggro of the guards.

Dude, I was reading my email when someone did this. I looked up to see my character being pummeled into the dirt.
