Inert Phoenix Ash droprate lower than intended

I grinded the inert phoenix ash out on the ptr 1 time, and then across multiple characters, I did 30 minute grinds when just simply testing out the drop rates.

this is happening to multiple people/groups, I don’t think it’s coincidence.

1 full 20 stack of inert phoenix ash on the PTR took me 1 hr & 20min to grind out.
in 30min i was able to obtain 5-10.

on retail, i grinded mine out pretty early and it also took only around 1hr and 30min ish.

on retail, i just wanted to test the rates for 1 hour after i already turned in the talisman for the pet, just to see what it’s like since people are saying that the drop rates are abyssmal.

in 1hr and 30, i was only able to get 2 inert phoenix ash drops.

Someone i met through the premade finder was listing that they were grinding on a dead realm. so i joined them, introduced them to the way i did it on the PTR:

We waited to the whole mountain to respawn the living blazes/scorching elementals. Which is about 5min for the full respawn.

In 1 entire round of kills, out of 5 members, no one got a single inert phoenix ash drop. We tried it a 2nd time, waited 5minutes. Same results. not a single inert phoenix ash drop after the 2nd round of kills. We did it a 3rd time, 1 person got an inert phoenix ash.

When i grinded this out on the ptr/earlier in live servers solo when no one was doing it (since we were still looking for the glittering phoenix ember), i was getting at least 1-3 inert phoenix ash per round of kills, then wait for 5min for the entirety of the mountain mobs to respawn.

There was one occasion where i didnt loot an inert phoenix ash on a round of kills. ONE.

Double check the drops. Make sure this isn’t working like the old legion mythic argus bug.

When BFA hit, mythic argus on personal loot was dropping only 1 mount for the entire group when it dropped. the 1% chance was for the group, then it would go to a person, instead of each individual player having a 1% chance each.

There is something not right about these odds compared to when I did it solo. If i got 1-3 inert phoenix ash (not including that 1 rare occasion), and 0/5 members can’t loot any on a set of kills, something isn’t correct.

This awful drop rate ruined any fun involved with this secret. 3 hours of flying in circles killing level 30s with no challenge or skill required practically falling asleep and I am 2/20 Ash. I don’t care anymore this is BORING REPETITIVE TEDIUM. LAZY DESIGN. Adds no value to the game. Buff it to a reasonable drop rate, reduce the amount required and allow the shared spawn Living Flame to drop them as well. This is a disgrace and really dampens an otherwise good expansion.

While I don’t doubt the validity of the main bug you are reporting, the way the Mythic raid mounts drop like this has been “intended” for awhile. The infernal mount off Mythic Gul’dan functions the same way (drops as loot off the corpse instead of PL), as do the mounts off Mythic Jaina and N’zoth. It is frustrating that they aren’t moved to personal loot but given how consistent they have been with this implementation, it is definitely intended. I would love to see them moved to personal loot but Blizzard might see this method as a way of artificially extending the lifecycle of regular mount farm groups.

Sorry, I misremembered the bug. this was it according to an old post from years ago:

hotfix on January 9: Raid group size no longer affects the drop rate of Mythic-only mounts. In Legion, Gul’dan and Argus mount drop rates were reduced if you had less than 20 people - 5% less per missing person. So, if you had less than 20, it could have been an issue.

I’ve been farming these for the past 3 days, 5+ hours at a time and I only have 8 Ash to show for it. Most of the time has been in a group of 5 as well. Feelsbadman
