Indescribably confusing issue with "Error" dialogue

So - on exactly one of my characters, and one of my characters ALONE, I have an insanely confusing issue where the “error” dialogue (not having a target, out of range, etc etc) doesn’t play. This extends to emotes, as well, actually to where my character is almost fully muted, but everything else works fine. I’ve tried disabling all of my addons, so it can’t be one of those, and I’m at a complete loss. Is there any way I can get help with this?

Which character, and which version of the game?

This character that I’m using the forums on, and retail. 11.1.7, 61559.

Have you done a proper full UI reset (as detailed in Support article linked below) to rule out a misbehaving addon or corrupted UI?

This can be reversed if done according to the directions in the Support article. I do this regularly to test things in a default install environment.

Please note, this is not the same as disabling addons OR doing a /reload of your UI.

I just tried that, did not work. Did a /roar emote to test, still silent. Logged onto another character, did the same emote, audio worked fine.

At the end of the support article, is this section.

Advanced Troubleshooting

If you continue to have errors, an addon or macro may have changed a console variable. You can reset this by typing the following command into your in-game chat box and pressing enter. You may receive a permission error, but the command will still work.

/console cvar_default

I was checking on my Paladin and she wasn’t making emote or error speech sounds (despite having those settings checked). I then did the cvar reset and now she is making sounds.

Unfortunately, still did not fix it. My character is still mute.

I feel like I remember this being a bug with evokers in Dracthyr form? Think it was initially a bug with the other Dracthyr classes and somehow got swapped onto evokers and still isn’t fixed.

OP - are any of your other characters evokers? Can you check those as well if you have other evokers?

I made another evoker as I didn’t have a second, and sure enough, that same problem exists, so I guess that makes the most sense!!! Okay, that solves that, thank you so much, and. How is that a bug

Can confirm is also happening on my Evoker while in her Dracthyr forum.

I usually have those sounds disabled in my settings, so didn’t notice it til I enabled the sound options and the Evoker still could not make sounds despite verifying other classes could make sounds.

It would be best to either make an in-game bug report OR make a post in the Bug Report forum so QA can be made aware that this issue is still persisting.
