INCREDIBLE New Idea to Break the Meta!

Finally - an INCREDIBLE and SMART way to BREAK THE META!!!

I have a really cool idea in shaking up the “meta”. Instead of each class bringing singular buffs, what about having certain group comps can get you a different type of buff for having specific classes in a group?

For example, having a mage, priest, and warlock in a group will give = Empowered Robes, increasing all cloth-based robes to thickened to given extra DR

or

Having a Hunter, Warrior, and Ehn Shaman = causes Tactics, increases all physical damage by %? or Having Paladin, Priest, and Druids = Divine Star, which increases all magic spells increase %. or Having Warrior, Paladin, and DK = Increases armor buff or
Having a DH, Warlock, and DK = Darkness from Hell, summon powerful demonic ads to aid in combat or Monk, Evoker, and Shaman = Windfury, increases movement speed when in and out of combat…

OR - Maybe instead of a damage/DR buff - maybe instead you get a specific buff that can be most beneficial for specific DUNGEON you want to fish for for example:

ROGUE, EVOKER, and SUVHUNTER = BOMB COMP, increases BOMB damage. and maybe THAt’s what you want most for the dungeon?

I think this will be so cool to mix and match and fish for a specific comp basedon what you have! This will also give ALL classes a chance to be incoporated!

Thoughts? I think this will help a lot! and sometimes the buff may be better to have than an actual meta comp itself?

You have no idea how class kits work much less the slightest idea on how to balance them.

Well, a lot of ppl want group buffs and various ways to spread out buffs/utility. This gives ppl a way a chance to be included and not just for the best damage, etc. it’s about having the correct buffs. I think that’s actually a BETTER way to balance, than having the best DPS give all the best utilities (which is it how it is right now)

This will only make the meta worse…

How so? You are literally BREAKING up various comps and building other comps. Sometimes the BEST DPS comp is not the best buff comp.

… you do realize this would just change what the meta would be, but it is still the exact same “issue” (it really isn’t an issue unless you are chasing MDI-levels of keys). You have just changed how it looks like, not broken up anything.

Exactly. “Change what the meta would be”. That’s the point. you want to switch up classes for specific buffs that the dungeon may want. maybe it’s not a buff you get, maybe it’s a buff that’s better for a specific dungeon. poison increased damage, or increased BOMB damage

Meta = Non-changing group of specific classes that is the best that ppl ONLY use to push high keys. People may choose to go after the group buff instead of group damage/utility.

For example, think of the current meta.

FDK, EHN, AUG, PAL, PRIEST

this gives best utility and output.

However, you MAY get more of a buff by switching the EHN w/ DRUID for a better buff for a particular dungeon. However, for the new dungeon, maybe you want increased BOMB damage which is a buff you can get, so you change that up for a ROGUE, EVOKER, SUVHUNTER COMP?

something like that you know?

Don’t give min/maxers more stuff to min/max.

So… your solution to “breaking the meta” is… do what we already are doing? We wait until another season and/or for nerfs and buffs since those do change the meta as well. That’s your solution, something which already happens in-game, except you are adding onto stuff that’s a whole load more convoluted and reducing the number of classes that people want even more than before, since now you need to look for your specific classes to get your specific Teamup-abilities?

Play some Marvel Rivals and see how consistently you can get people to change characters to activate specific teamup combinations… and that’s just when one player needs to do it, and you can swap mid-match.

Now imagine doing that during group creation and it being multiple characters to activate it.

And next season it’ll be another, or if it isn’t, then one or multiple of those classes will be nerfed or others will be buffed.

This is quite literally the whole point I’m making. Min/Maxing is fine for folks who want to do it (ergo why specific ‘metas’ are fine and only relevant for players playing at levels such as the MDI). But this idea of “we need to change up the meta … by creating this convoluted type-matchup during group making” is beyond silly.

I know it’s silly since meta is made up that’s trickled down to the lower keys. but it is how it is. Leaving it the way it is won’t change anything. but THIS will offer a new way to bringing in other classes that is less used to have a certain “Team comp” buff.

Sure. But it doesn’t matter.
Folks are allowed to run whater comp they want and if someone wants to run a “meta” comp in lower keys, they are allowed to. I wouldn’t, and most wouldn’t. Some would, and those are keys you decide whether you stick around in or leave.

Ain’t more complicated than that.

Nope. It wouldn’t.
The point is that you just change it from one meta to another. You’d still have the same 5 classes. In fact if you make it as convoluted as you suggest then you’d likely end up in a situation where more keys would fail because “oh we need a disc priest to activate the shield buff of the warrior whose electric malarkey enhancement shield needs to run at the same time as the demon hunter’s laser-eye-generating shield.”

I’m being facetious, but the point is that even if you just make it a straight up buff, then you just made that the comp everyone will be running… and it’d be a massively boring change. So if you make it more interesting so folks want to engage with it, you make it more flashy … which necessitates it to become more complex.

Which, again, I will just refer to Marvel Rivals both on how you do it and how often folks actually are willing to change characters, and then understand that in WoW that’d be 4 magnitudes more complicated and difficult due to requiring MULTIPLE people to do it.

Sir, I don’t have any bombs.

Can I go with the cloth users?

haha i dont know… i just thought this was a cool idea but perhaps i need to think about it through more

Its almost as bad as being an adult and not knowing how basic decorum works.

Or they could just balance classes instead of all that

Me thinks this will just create new metas and make picking dps to fill out my group even sillier.

Key thing about all suggestions:
Your first one will always be the worst idea you have. The second one will be a lil’bit better but still damn bad, on the third one you might get lucky with a good idea but you are still quite likely missing a lot of important stuff.

Suggestions like these need to be thought about from every angle, and WoW’s M+ being run in groups of 5 means that there will always be at least 5 different perspectives to the same dungeon. Now add the current mechanics, patches, game balance, gearing options, dungeon rotations, and so on and… you end up in a massively complicated situation.

This is why “less is more” is usually one of the best starting points for any ideas. The current affixes demonstrate how with fewer affixes we still get intense and varied moments without needing a massive number of 'em for an example.

And we still have a near endless debate and discussion about what affixes are good, should stay, should be added, should be changed, removed, and so on.

The idea of different classes making different buffs is a very fun and flavorful idea from the RPG perspective. I love it.

However, my time on WoW has taught me that min/maxxers will always min/max. It’s impossible to stop them from min/maxxing.

The true issue is that the player population, at large, take these minuscule percentages (we’re talking like 0.5% to 2%) as gospel and refuse to let “imperfectly geared and imperfectly specced” players into their groups.

I think if they balance it correctly so that the best DPS doesn’t necessarily have the best DAMAGE buff, then it should be okay! but i know that’s more balancing…

It’s literally impossible.

These buffs would be fun, but just brings another layer of min/maxxing. Class combos will become even more locked; a Warrior would only be allowed to join if the group already has 4 specific classes, for example.

A similar thing actually happened in Cata, before MoP “harmonized” all the buffs (then they went away in WoD due to players crying about “homogenization” of classes).
