I only speak for myself, however I would be willing to pay up to $25/month for this game if it still had the soul of its former self and a good development team I could trust. Times change, inflation is a thing, and it’s clear that WoW’s subscription model wasn’t enough to cover everything, so they had to incorporate the store. Now I don’t know the data comparing subscription profits vs. micro-transaction profits, however a $5-10 price increase would definitely help pay for more public relations and developer positions and alleviate the need for so many store mounts.
If an extra $60-120 / year gives Blizzard the tools to deliver on professions, old world updates, and a steady stream of non-gated content, I think everyone would be happier. We just need like 20% more. BFA needed to set the trend not follow the trend of Legion. Real sea exploration would’ve done this South Seas expansion a ton of justice and created lots of replay-ability while trouncing on all these wannabe pirate MMOs, however due to lack of resources all they could muster was more queues and instanced content. With personal loot and scaling, instanced content actually serves zero purpose now other than the fact that it is easy to develop.
I subbed to WoW for 12 years because I knew I was paying for quality. If I have to pay more to keep that quality, then please, allow me to do so.
yeah I wonder if they treat WoW like the government treats social security. Keep putting money into this thing that is important for you to invest in, however we are just going to treat it like a slush fund with no guarantee that that money is actually going to be spent on the product you are paying for.
The sub price being raised doesnt bother me at all…but you do realize its all going to go right into the pockets of investors, right?
Raising the sub price wont change a single thing about the game for US.
this is the issue. the players no longer have faith in the developers. Back in the day, we were more than happy to pay 15/month because we knew that Blizzard could deliver on the promise of endless fantasy - the never-ending story. But now we just assume that any surplus profits will go straight to CEOs or investors rather than development and communications, and that’s pretty much all you need to know.
Years ago I prolly would have agreed with the raised price because the game was awesome. But now with all the draconian restrictions Blizzard have put all over the game then absolutely no.
They would have to deliver first, then ask for the moar money. $15 feels fair for what I’m getting, but $25 for whats here now, with a promise of something better/fuller in 2 years, not so much.
You can buy battle pets on the auction house and give them to friends, family, and guild members to increase your investment in the game. There is no reason to increase the subscription fee.
Classic coming out will add slightly more value to the current model for a lot of players since they can have access to both. You are right, a 5 or 10 dollar hike would have to equate to an equivalent amount of content. WoW players are already too weary about surplus dollars being misappropriated rather than being put into the countless broken systems in the game. Very little have faith that 5 more dollars a month would actually improve the game, signaling that trust in Blizzard has disappeared.
